Why do Breitling keep doing things that make me moan about them! I soooooo want to be positive but they keep messing stuff up.

Sorry but the lack of the classic Bakelite box really cheapens the package IMO. And looking at the travel case in relation to the outer box, then the new package must be tiny. Yes I know the box isnt that important but for me it sets the stall out for the company. Looks a bit like something Tag might produce - not offensive, just dull and frankly a bit cheap. Sorry to be negative (again) but it's another error IMO.

Driver, please do not insult Tag by comparing them to Breitling! haha

Actually, the Tag box is nicer IMO...not that it really matters but it is. Once again Breitling can't do anything right. Maybe next they will change their company logo and colors to completely destroy the brand.

You're right, it is. The Grand Carrera box, in particular, is way nicer, but even the standard TAG box is nicer than what Breitling is currently offering. That said, as much as I liked the bakelite box - especially the most recent one - I always felt a twinge of regret that such a nice thing for the most part just stayed in my closet. If Breitling balanced out the loss of the box with an improvement in overall design direction for the brand, I would consider it a totally worthy tradeoff. After all, I'm wearing the watch, not the box. As it stands, though, yeah...this change does seem like another in a long line of forsaken traditions.

General thought here.

How much have Breitlings gone up?
This looks like something knocked up by a first year design student!

Is there anything good now about a once loved brand.

So pleased I still have a collection of mint boxes going back to the 80s.

Funny because I mentioned in the "nice box" thread that I liked the bakelite box. Now its gone. I used to like the travel case...and then I took it with my in my backback for a few weeks while I...traveled. Ill post pics when I get a chance.

I see this additional chintzy/cheesey move as cost cutting tactics. Since the world
has nose-dived in so many ways, Breitling acted by ceasing annual chocolates @
XMAS, inflating prices, cutting down on amenities & quality of said items. Just be
grateful for not receiving dead animal carcasses for new watch purchases. :(

Maybe Breitling eliminated the Bakelite box to be kind to the environment? But then I'm sometimes known to be an optimist. ;)

I have now received my new watch and the new style box. Actually the new box feels sturdy and substantial. It feels clean in terms of styling contemporary appeal. The loss of the bakelite box has made the package smaller and more compact, but this is still ok with me. I'll post pictures soon.

Awesome

I guess it would just be too cynical to suggest that these are a lot cheaper to produce than the bakelite.

I love the bakelite boxes since I do not employ winder. They are a pretty nice dresser accessory and are easy to access, but this new box has no presentation value at all and if you want to keep your watch in the box I imagine sliding the top off instead of a hinged back will be sort of a pain.

Good thing the majority of the models I am interested in are from the bakelite era

Personally, I find it riveting. Someone had to do it...

Good one.

I can't believe how bad these boxes look. I liked the bakelite case as well and am disappointed they won't be around anymore.

Although I don't think the bakelite box was overly elegant, it was cool from a novelty standpoint. This new box is complete garbage. I can't believe Breitling continues to raise prices yet "cheapen" their watches simultaneously. This brand is completely lost.

I've yet to see these in the shop. I can't help thinking I'm going to be dissapointed compared to the classic Bakelite we all associated with Breitling.

We have many, many of the original Bakelite boxes for our current stock and will continue to use them.

Incidentally, I do know that the Bakelite boxes were £60 for us to buy. Breitling have dropped their prices recently across the range by 10%. Maybe, they factored this into the equation.
