wow thanks so much for the help!

I understand watches are such a personal choice, I'm still trying to decide whether I should just let him pick or just surprise him with one. I've been in touch with Time & Gold, and will be going in for a visit to look at the watches soon. They quoted me $8000 for the navitimer... but a more reasonable price is $6000 (assuming 25%off)?

I also quite liked the Avenger, which I got quoted for $5500..

Are these prices reasonable?

I deal with Time and Gold a lot, they do not discount for me or anyone I know who has bought there in person, as much as La Swiss does, but we pretty much all buy from Time & Gold anyways. Time & Gold is usually within a few hundred dollars though.

So as for your pricing, without knowing which model and strap or bracelet you are getting, that makes it very tough to answer your question.

I second the thought of letting him pick one. While the Navtimer is the classic Breitling to many, the Chronomat line represents their defining sporty and more modern line which is arguably to some also a classic Breitling line. It is also much more durable by design. I for one am a huge Breitling fan, and I do not own a Navtimer. Though there is one I am strongly considering, there are countless models I don't care for at all.

There are tons of options and some of them couldn't be further apart, so it would be very hard to chose one and have it be perfect unless you know what he is looking for already. There have been men on here posting saying their better half bought them something they would rather trade in on something else. That is always an option as well!

My Navitimer World is from Time & Gold. La Swiss always rubs me the wrong way, though I was in there last week and this employee I had never seen before actually had some product knowledge (but not the product I want!), too little too late... before that the last time I was in La Swiss was last December. I asked about the Navitimer 1461 LE and the employee had no idea what it was, then I saw a pamphlet on the counter and it was in there but no price, she had no clue the price or when it would be in and told me "come back next month and see" instead of taking my name down and looking into it, and she was trying to make a sale too as she wanted to show me the Navitimer World black dial, then she suggested a different Breitling and I kept saying "No, No No, Navimter 1461 LE please". So I went home, found the price on Breitling.com reached out to FEAR and had the watch a week later.

Time & Gold is also really good for straps/bracelets as they do keep a lot of stock (since it can take a long time to get them in here in Canada).

Simple... you can sort of do both.

Surprise him by telling him you're taking him somewhere, and then let him pick. You could even make it a bit of fun by walking him right by the store and keep going! Then saying maybe you went a little too far. :)

Personally I think you're guaranteed a perfect day by letting him pick so why take a chance, or at least wonder a little if he would have liked something better. Not to mention looks and model matter, but a watch also has to fit and feel good, and I'd say there's many of us who have sold a watch that didn't meet that criteria... I know I have.

Hi

nice idea but their are many breitlings and veriations of them their is also the breitling for bentley range that has bigger watches. So you may want an idear about what size and colours he likes. As other people have put the navitimer is the classic. :lingsrock:
