Makes me glad I was able to pickup up one of the old BB this week at my AD.

Agreed... Don't like the extra red, the rider tabs and bezel don look right and they got rid of the bracelet. That was he selling feature for me!

But forgive me, what is meant by "Lume"?

I agree with everybody. I'm so sad. This was it for me. I was I love with the old blackbird. All I wanted was same everything but a new movement. Now it's dumb looking. What a shame.

I do like the buck bezel better in the GMT and 360 dials, but as has been said....It just doesn't look special, and takes a back seat to the original w/o the in-house motor.

Tough audience! I'm not saying I love it. Lume loss and facet loss are admittedly disappointing as is the lack of in house movement. And yes, the BB is a beloved watch (i own one myself!) and the red is probably not to everyone's taste. But let's put this in perspective. It's not this...

Ok see what you mean by lume. Missed that. They have it only on the tips of the batons now. The sub dials look different too.

Agreed, but why should I as a consumer have to set my standards that low?

I can't quite believe that I'm defending Breitling here but in fairness most of this isn't about standards, but taste. The non in house movement is about standards, but the lume, bezel pip, bracelet facets and red are really just matters of taste and Breitling have made far more tasteless watches than this one.

Damn it. I f*cking knew it - a Buck Rogers compass bezel. Damn it! And lousy lume. WTF? Breitling, what the hell are you thinking? I really don't get it. Calling this ridiculous hodgepode a Blackbird is blasphemy, and shows just how completely lame the designers and management at Breitling have gotten. While I respect the additions to the TO and SOH lines, they aren't enough to offset the utter gutting of the Chronomat line. I know some people view Navitimers as the "truest" Breitling models, but the Chronomats were what really said "Breitling" to me. And now so many of them are repulsive. Ugh...this is really depressing.

Perhaps, but few that were as disappointing.

I'm going to add more constructive criticism. I am clearly in the minority regarding the bezel font. I believe it is here to stay, and I like it.

I don't mind red accents. In fact, I own a Chronomat 01 LE, so clearly I like the red accents. That being said, I do not like the red around the date window but white font on the date wheel. They both need to be one colour in this dial in my opinion.

The case etc is all fine, but I do miss the faceted bracelet.

Finally, and most importantly, it is not in-house.

I was expecting a new Blackbird, first release LE, in-house, new bezel font, dial with some red accents, faceted bracelet, and of course a display back. If that was the case, I would be going to my AD today to make a deposit.

The biggest part of this piece that prevents me from going down to my AD is the lack of an in-house movement, and the inconstant use of the red accenting.

This goes along with the new TO 1461, if it was in-house, I would be all over it. I see no reason to discontinue the Blackbird then release it with the exact same movement.

The LUME! They took away the killer lume!!! This suggests the new BB, when it isrelased, will have this stupid dial addition/omission. The lume is one of the nicest parts of a BB dial.......................

You are absolutely right, I completely missed mentioning the lume. I have a Chronomat B01 LE, and the lume is pretty good, so I assume while there is less lume than the previous BB, that in this case the lume would still be more than sufficient. This comes down to personal taste I suppose; I believe Sergio complained the previous BB had so much lume that the markers appeared green in the sunlight so he didn't like it.

It is the Chronomat 44 with a Blackbird dial and movement plopped in.

After looking at it again, it is evident it is a Galactic Chronograph II with a Blackbird movement and modified dial plopped in. Check the endlinks on the bracelet - those are the old Evo endlinks, not the newer, B01 endlinks. The case, bezel and bracelet are exactly the same on this BB as on the GCII. This is not a "new" Blackbird, but a recycling of parts.

Also note the tagline on the BB: "a blend of strength and originality." Unbelievable.
