Similar thing happened to me at Montblanc. I don't collect pens anymore, but had a large collection of Mont Blanc. Went to a dealer, right after going to the gym - wife beater and all...asked to see a couple pens, the woman behind the counter told me she needed to place an order for another customer first (UMMM NOBODY IS IN THE STORE, call after I leave!), anyhow another lady helped me, ended up leaving with over $3,000 worth of pens that the first person could have had as a commission (if paid on commission).
