I think I may just close my paypal account. Seems it tries to protect buyers but has just created a new mean for scamming. When (not IF) I sell another watch, it's wire transfer or cash. No pp, no gift cards, no hand guns, or time shares. It's not worth it and I have to admit I've just been lucky many times when I never checked out the buyer at all.

And use a UPS Store if at all possible. They have to inspect the item to make sure what they are insuring is there. Sure it costs maybe $175 instead of $50, but at least you can argue the regular business practice of the shipper supports your case.

jadanf, sorry to hear of your issues. Have you considered a private suit against him? May not help you get the money, but can start to make his life a misery if you get a judgment and if US is anything like here may eventually lead to a garnishee order. Also, it provides more leverage with Paypal if the courts find in your favour.

In terms of naming / shaming, I have no issue with you posting that information here, though I defer to sharkman as to what is / is not appropriate in terms of data points. What I will say is that I very strongly suggest that other members avoid comments that could be construed as threatening, no good can come of it and you could bring a world of problems on yourselves.

What a low life!!!
Well you have his work number and his boss's name. Call his boss and let him know that he's employing a lying thieving scum!!!

That's what I hate about ebay/paypal, seller protection is almost non-existant.

Don't think this is a great idea. This has nothing to do with this guy's job, and I am sure he would have some recourse if this happened.

First thing that needs to happen is we all need to know who this tool is so he can't do it again. After that I would look into legal action. If the guy thinks he is being sued it may scare him into telling the truth...at least one can hope.

This is exactly why I said no address, phone numbers, or emails. Name, screen name, city. For the protection of forum members. The last thing jdanf or the forum needs is a feeding frenzy. we had one a while back and frankly got lucky it turned out ok.

I have never sold anything on the 'Bay, though I have been temped to try. It can be a zoo over there but I do think watches are particularly fertile ground for scammers over there. If I did sell something there it would certainly not be a high-value item after this. Still don't understand how you ended up without your money back.

I agree, we just need the basic information and to be on notice.

wow this sucks man. jadanf is a straight stand up guy. i have had the pleasure of speaking with him on the phone on several ocassions and he has even gone out of his way to try and help me with my work with his own personal contacts. things like this always happen to good people. i wish i had some advice to give but i dont and anything said at this point would just be retrospect.

i really hope that it all works out bud.

SO sorry to here that man!!! Unbelievable!

I just sold a Rolex GMT II Ceramic on eBay this week and would only accept a PayPal eCheck because I wanted to avoid the fees. I hope once an eCheck clears it can't be reversed. Now I'm worried.

I agree with Tom that PayPal for items like we're selling is just not appropriate. If they're going to take payments back after taking your side in the dispute what's the point...how about a little "Seller Protection" to go with the "Buyer Protection" they advertise?

WoW, that totally sucks!!! I cant believe the nerve of people to do this kind of Tom Foolery, I'm afraid its only gonna get worse with the economy. I would avoid Ebay at all costs ,and never deal with Paypal, they are a pain in the ass ,and just aren't reliable. Wired money is the only thing I will take ,and nothing else.. I hope the schmuck falls into a 500 foot sinkhole.

I am not sure if you could do this but report the watch stolen to Breitling ,and if it happens to come in for servicing they can claim it ,and send it back to you.

I think he got a lazy ass cop who didn't want to do anything, I can file a police report for a broken window if I choose too, so why he cant file a police report is beyond me, this is called theft by deception , and warrants a police report.

Yeah that. Half the cops don't know squat. Go up the ladder.

What about filing a claim with your insurance company? Would they go after him?
