I have owned several all polished Breitlings on bracelets (Evo, SA, Navi World) and one of the reasons that I couldn't "bond" with them and eventually sold them, was the polished look. These are all great watches and look fantastic, but I prefer a more subdued look. IMO, any time you strap an all polished watch on your wrist you are, either on purpose or not, wanting to attract attension to it. Sometimes that is fun and a good thing, but in my case I didn't like the attension. I don't know if it was a bad feeling that some jerk might TRY to jump me (...see trip to the hospital for him...) or that the friends and family might start asking questions about the watch.

You see I don't make a bunch of money and even though I do pretty decent comparible to my closest family members, I do NOT want to have to justify my watch addition to them. It's none of their business, but some of them (Mom and Dad expecially) wouldnt understand or approve. Now I am a grown man (41) and don't need their approval, but to live peacefully I don't need their ridicule either. :)

Now if I was making the money I want to be making, well then I believe I could justify to anyone why I was wearing a $10,000+ watch.

So..... even though I like the looks of some of the polished models, I prefer to purchase and own brushed versions/models. I have even taken to the thought of leather on every watch! (Ocean Racer and Pro2 brushed are still a good choice for me).

Ask yourself why you don't WANT to wear the polished gems. The decision has to be for your benefit and noone elses.

You will allways find people, who critisize everything. Sure, if they cannot afford a Breitling (not even a used one), people tend to make them bad, so they can reduce their desire. But as soon as they have the money, they will spend it on similar things. Usually, thats like preaching water, drinking wine.

Thanks for the responses!

Just read an Omega site thread comparing Omega and Breitling- refreshingly they gave Breitling the credit due!!

Also, read an old rolex forum thread on the chronomat evo- once again I was happy to see it got a good reception there!!

With respect to polished bracelets- I'm still undecided. Sometimes I think the pilot is handsome and well crafted and well, brilliant!! Other times I worry it's a bit flashy for me . I'll keep enjoying it for now and see!!

Thanks everyone for advice and wise words!!

For me, the more rows in a bracelet, the less flashy it is. I find a polished Pro II the blingiest of Breitling bracelets. The 5 and 7 row Pilot and Navitmer bracelets I don't find Blingy at all. Even the 5 row Speed bracelets on Bentley models are fairly sedate until you get into 24mm territory and plop a 48mm head on one.

On a Bling scale of 1-10, I'd rate an SA as a solid 8 (10 with a diamond bezel). An Evo? 5 tops.

I get nothing but complements on my Superavenger with white face. It catches everyones eye. I'm 5'7" lean 195lbs. I have good size forearms for someone my height. But I think it's all in how the watch fits your personality. Don't worry if people think your too flashy or a "pimp". Who cares if Pauly D, ludacris, and Lil Wayne have Breitlings, because classy people like John Travolta and Mario Lopez have them too More people comment on my Superavenger than my Rolex Sub C...

Unless "everyone" is commenting, then you only know the opinions of those who are willing to share them with you.

OK, I just re-read this entire thread, including my attempts at educated sounding comments, but here is the deal - WHAT'S THE BFD?! Brushed, polished, they're all the same material. Who cares? I don't. If you like a watch and it's polished, wear it. If you like a watch and it's brushed, wear it. If you don't like polished steel, don't buy it. If you don't like brushed steel, don't buy it. No one needs to meditate on the deeper meaning until the moment of self-actualization comes.

This is just silly trying to rationalize or explain what the finish on a watch means, suggests, or implies. It's just a watch finish. I mean really, is some sociologist going to write a dissertation on this???? :guns: :guns:
