I use diluted Simple Green and my fingers. Started using SG because it is my AD's secret cleaning formula. It is a better for cutting grease (including built up body oils) and doesn't have the lotions and junk that can leave a film and act as a finger print magnet. About half strength, tho I've used full strength. Wash hand well to remove oils, etc.. rinse watch under warm water and rub with fingers, spray on SG and rub it around with fingers, rinse it off while continuing to rub. Dry with clean microfiber cloth. Takes about 1 minute and I never have to wonder if I am brushing my teeth with the wrong brush. I do the same thing after polishing with a Sunshine or Cape Cod to get the gross chemical and polish residue off.

But, I never put a watch on without wiping it down with a moistened micro fiber cloth and then wiping it with a dry portion of the cloth so it's not like much grime builds up in the first instance.

Anyone who has bought a watch from me got it after a Simple Green clean.

Not as long as you dilute it.

Ive used a soft toothbrush on many things, including dark painted surfaces that are very prone to scratching. Its important to make sure the toothbrush is clean, since toothpaste (and presumably, toothpaste residue) can be very abrasive.

I kind of assumed (hoped  ) that people would use new brushes.

What in the world are you guys doing to your watches that you need "soft" toothbrushes and Simple Green and witches brews to clean your damn watches?

I'm a guy - Italian at that - and I sweat and get dirty and just use good old fashioned bath soap while I'm in the shower to massage my watch when it gets grimey and it always looks fantastic when I dry it off with a soft cotton cloth.

Seriously - what's up with the witches brews and secret formulas and magic brushes?

Warm water and soap people - it's not that hard!

Most days I just use a little eyeglass cleaner and an optical rag. However, there are so many crevices on Breitlings that grime occasionally builds up in the hard to reach places, despite my daily cleaning efforts. A soft toothbrush gets in there and gets it out.

After my experience with water ingress with my SA after 3 months of ownership from new. I knew i hadnt left any crowns loose or stuff like that, no deep water diving,no swimming, ect ...but i do wear the piece all the time. I wash my hands quite regularly as i do detail cars often, obviously i take it off on these occasions, i do shower with the SA on too..........when i returned the piece to BUK it was diagnosed as a seal failure. However the best tip i got from the AD when i purchased the SA was "make sure you check the crown is tight at all times".....this became a habit ....a good one to get into....for on occasions of time adjustment date change ect you do have to loosen the crown........so its now a habit to unconciously check the crown whenever or wherever........result no moisture under the crystal .......and a nice clean SA........i do use a staimless steel clear liquid cleaner on my soft microfiber cloth every now and then....it keeps the grooves on the bezel clear.......but i avoid getting it on the crystal coating..........these pieces are more rugged than we think its the basic care and attention we neglect at times........although some are not as good as expected in water.

That's exactly what I'm doing Jackson, optical rag works the best for me. Haven't tried eyeglass cleaner though. Should give it a try.

But I give credit to Drtymrtini. By reading most posts here, I also wandered what the heck you guys are doing with your watches to need SG or other related products. :? Unless, of course, if you clean your watches once every 6 months of daily wear.

I'm using, daily (only takes a few minutes), an optical rag and my watches are as shiny as when I bought them. Well, almost, minus the scratches which become more visible after cleaning.

Soap scum can build up in all of the crevices if you just use a regular bar of soap.

Exactly.

As I said above, I clean my watches everytime I put them on with a microfiber(eyeglass cloth is same thing) and plain water just as I do my eyeglasses. Every few months I may hit it with a quick under the faucet/Simple Green wash which is somewhat superfluous given the way I wipe them down regularly. The thing about SG is it cuts the oils, leaves no residue and thus acts like a finger print deterrent. I've yet to need a toothbrush or anything else.

I really don't care how people clean their watches. What I'm not doing is wearing mine in a hot shower and risking breaking down the seals which over time will happen no matter how good/expensive/special the watch is.

Precisely :!: Price has nothing to do with it, it's pure physics.
