LING MAN HERE,

I just sent a video to Admin regarding straps VS bracelets because I don't know how to upload one here so I'm depending on him to do it for me. The video explains in detail what is acceptable and what is not. Watch it, listen to it and don't argue with me because I am RIGHT and always will be. By the way hello Driver 8 and Roff. LING MAN is alive and well and in fighting shape ! The attachment of the Croco Strap to the clasp involved "Custom" work that my leather specialist handled for me. THIS IS THE WAY IT IS TO BE !!!

Yeah,

Let's raise some HELL and get it back to where it should be ! Exclusivity never lasts and the "Founders" always have to take action to restore it ! I see that now we have more talk about RUBBER than Gold. These young guy's need to move to a Casio site where they can compare the thickness of their RUBBER Straps and how 'Durable" their time pieces are while they are doing whatever the f--k it is they do all day instead of discussing the intricacies and craftsmanship of LINGS. We need to get back to RULES as they apply to FULL LINGS, HALF LINGS, COMPLETELY SCREWED UP LINGS and whatever else is discussed here. When some young J--k--f makes a statement about how his RUBBER STRAP is great we need to SLAM him like the young j--k--f he is. As a site moderator you can be diplomatic and I will just watch and come right behind you with CAUSTIC, INSULTING yet TRUE comments. So you can just leave the dirty work to me because that's what I do. My mother always said that if there is a dirty job "Ling Man Has To Do It"

They are all straps, professional, ocean racer, lether, ocean classic, etc etc
What we call now bracelets are metal straps like professional or Pilot.
Bracelets are solid, they don't have moving parts and not always metal.
The only one we could call semi-bracelet is the air racer.

Bracelets are METAL. GOLD ETC. and have LINKS. Straps are made of Leather, Rubber (for f--kh--d's") or other NON METAL material. GET IT STRAIGHT ! In other words Bracelets are made of some kind of METAL (with LINKS), Straps are made of other materials and don't have LINKS !

PLAIN AND F------G SIMPLE !

Might be a regional thing, but just about everyone I know here who isn't a WIS says metal strap. Doesn't mean they're right, of course  . Ling Man should come out here to set them straight.

"Ling Man should come out here to set them straight."

I just did ! IF IT DOESN'T HAVE "LINKS" IT'S NOT A BRACELET ! For example, the Speed Bracelet is a 5 rowed "Link" bracelet. The Professional 2 bracelet is a 3 rowed BRACELET. The Navitimer World bracelet is a 7 rowed BRACELET. If you buy a "Chain" it has "links", if you buy a strap it does not have links. SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE and I don't care how it is discussed in different parts of the world, a BRACELET is made of some kind of metal and has LINKS and a STRAP is made of another type of material like Leather or RUBBER for J--k--fs's or divers and doesn't have LINKS. PERIOD !

Hey, calm down.
Bracelets are older than wristwatches, and they didn't have links. And if I'm not wrong the first wristwatches had leather straps, then they made metal straps with links that most people called them bracelets associating with the "real" bracelets.
We call them bracelets, but they are metal straps.

This is a Bracelet

OK,

We can go back in time and look at Egyptian styled solid BRACELETS and argue all day. The bottom line here is that when it pertains to LINGS, Bracelets have links and are metal, either Stainless, Platinum or Gold and have LINKS, and Straps are made of either Rubber, Leather, Croco or some other non LINKED material. If you disagree show me a Breitling issued "Band" of some kind that is not made of Metal with no links that is referred to as a "Bracelet" or a "band" that is made of some kind of metal with LINKS that is referred to by Breitling as a Strap. Bracelets are some kind of METAL and have LINKS and STRAPS are some kind of Leather, Croco, Rubber, (for f--k h--ds or divers) material and have no links and are either "Tang" buckled or fastened with a deployment clasp.

Do you have problems reading my posts or did I write them in spanish?
I said they are metal straps that we call them bracelet.
So yes, they are bracelets (read carefully this ->) beacuse we call them like that. But that doesn't mean that they are not metal straps or we can't call them straps.
What goes between the lugs in the head of a watch is called straps. They can be rubber, metal, leather, nylon, etc etc.
As I said before we call the metal straps "bracelet" associating with the original bracelets.

Hmm...with words like "mother," "do it," "job," "dirty," and "ling," there is something disturbingly Freudian in that statement. Nevertheless, I agree with you about the bracelets, and the rubber. I look forward to you setting the record straight.

Welcome back, by the way. I had come across some of your posts when searching the archives, and am glad to see you're still in the land of the living.

Are you familiar with the term "term of art"? Like many areas of special interest, the world of watches has a specialized vocabulary with words that are used in specific ways that might be different from their common usage. Just like people who don't know about watches might call the crystal "glass," the dial a "face," the crown a "knob," etc., so too might people call bracelets "metal straps." In terms of common usage, they're not wrong, but they are still misusing the terms of art of watch connoisseurs.

As for the etymology of such terms, have you researched the origin of the term "bracelet" as it is used by watch people, or are you speculating?

Can u show me a watch specialized dictionary where it says that is incorrect to say metal strap to bracelets and the origin of the term bracelet used by watchmakers or are you speculating that what we call bracelet are not associated with what I mentioned before?
