And a nice looking one, too. Congrats on the score. (Am I the only one who gets a little wistful looking at Breitling's older styles as the company continually moves further away from them?)

Can you tell how old it is...I know they stoped making them in 2004? I think the style is somewhat timeless.

The only way to date it exactly is to remove the bracelet and check between the lugs at the "6" end of the case. There you will find 4 numbers - the first 2 denote the number of the week and the second 2 denote the year it was made. Hence for example 3405 would mean a watch was made in the 34th week of 2005.

And yes, it's real. Nice one too.

Thank you everyone for answering all my questions, I'm glad I found this forum.

One last question: On my crosswind, I like it when the sweep hand is moving. But I heard it is not good to keep it running....anyone know if this is true?

Again, thanks to all of you!

If you mean the central seconds hand (the one for the chronograph) then there is no real issue in leaving it running. It will reduce the power reserve a little, but if you wear it every day then that's more of a theoretical problem than a real one.

Some lume applications are more intense than others. I found Breitling's lume on the Chronomat to be middle of the road. I wouldn't be able to perceive it unless it were fully charged, and then I was in near-total darkness and my eyes were adjusted. Conversely, the lume on my Omega Seamaster is intense; it only takes a few seconds to charge, and I can see it glow as soon as I get out of direct light - no darkness or eye adjustment required.

I did some lume comparison shots a while ago:

As are few other Breitlings. The Blackbird is unusually lume-heavy for the brand. Personally, I like it, but it's not to everybody's taste.

I also Like it, you would think for all that money, everything would work to the fullest.

I have a Chrono Sector that lums bright for a long time!

Some people don't like heavy lume because it can take on a greenish cast in sunlight and affect the appearance of the dial. As for getting your money's worth, there are some very expensive watches that don't have any lume - a number of Patek models come to mind. It's just a matter of what you're looking for.

The BB+ also makes me a very nice cup of coffee in the morning. (stop it)

If you think the Lume is glowing now, just wait till it's surrounded by diamonds to bounce all that light off, spakles everywhere!

You don't give up, do you?

Alan, the more I look at that BB on that strap, the more I like it. Which Breitling OEM strap do you think comes closest to your strap? I'm thinking the croco in gold; brown looks a little dark, and tan is definitely too light - at least if their online configurator is anything to go by.
