The answer to all your watch pronunciation needs. You guys are killin' me with this Breetling and Britling stuff.

In German the first vowel is typically silent and the second is pronounced as a long vowel. I think I learned that in High School German from Frau Sittig (the "Iron Frau"). B!?ch flunked me my 8th semester of German for cutting class too much so I would have to take foreign language in college. Can you believe that?? Not that I'm still bitter about it. Not at all.

:yeahthat

German spelling rules are so simple! No ambiguity. None of this "i before e, except after c" crap! Breitling is "Bright-ling" for me the whole way.

@ RJRJRJ - I always read the word colonel as "coll-oh-nell" in my head but say it correctly "ker-nell". So funny to hear someone else has this mind/mouth mix up!

You laugh at the Japanese pronunciation...there is a Japanese Air Force F-15 dude that ordered watches with us, and he sent me his initial email inquiry, in perfect english, spelling it "Breitring."

Call them and listen to how they answer the phone.

I once sold outdoor gear. I lost count of how many customers pronounced the brand name Teva (sandals) TEE-vah. It's actually Teh-va. We had company reps come by the store to give clinics. I talked to their employees on the phone. I knew from the source how it's pronounced, and I had customers trying to argue with me.

Peace

Mike

Oh, of course you're right about this. I never argued back with them. If they buy it, they can call it whatever they want.

This is a strange but very familar topic.. to me. I am a stickler for at least attempting the "correct" pronounciation of the different watch brands. When ever I hear someone say "is that a "Brit ling" ", I will correct them because they just sound like a fool. I think if your going to be WIS the least you should do is attempt to say the names correctly and educate others who just dont know.

When I first got into this terrible obsession, I used to call Panerai, "Pan air eye", before hearing it pronounced at the AD "Panner eye" and from the watch names pronouncing web site, already linked to in this thread. I will give the AD credit though, even when I said it wrong they continued to say it correctly causing me to investigate and confirm that I was an idiot.

:)

I wish it wasn't corrupted. Silly as it sounds, I'd really like to hear if it is pronounced "roll-ex," or if that's just an Anglicization of a word that actually should have a French pronunciation. Although, I would feel quite silly pronouncing it "roll-ay," even if that is correct, which I doubt.
