The brands new ones for my own collection I've always bought from AD's, or direct from the manufacturer/distributor for some of the smaller brands I've purchased. However I've also used a couple of watch dealers in the past for non-current models - my old Bentley Le Mans being one example.

Ones that I've bought to specifically sell on were from a variety of sources - AD's if the discount was ridiculously low, or else eBay, Chrono24, various watch dealers, non-AD jewellers, grey market dealers from the States (when the FX rate was good!) etc.

In terms of how I buy them, well I've bought in most ways to be honest - cash out-right a lot of times, interest free credit from the AD oaccasionally, even the credit card if I plan to sell on before the bill comes in! I make sure I can afford it and then I use whatever means works out the best. I don't have anything like a fixed "no credit" rule or something, so as long as I know I can afford it then that's all that matters.

I recently purchased my SuperOcean Steelfish (white dial) from Bachendorf's jewelers in the Dallas Galleria, after wearing two different Rolex Datejusts (one stainless, one stainless and gold) for a combined 30 years. I was more than ready for something "chunkier" and more sporty, and was ready to get back to an all-stainless look. The SO Steelfish was the perfect answer. It's definitely chunky and sporty, but also looks good when you're in business attire. For me, it's the perfect watch, and it's definitely eye-catching.

FYI, I highly recommend Bachendorf's for anyone in the Dallas market (or elsewhere, for that matter). Ask for Collette Foreman, who is a Breitling expert. She's very helpful and professional, and really knows her Breitlings. She will also get you whatever you need in a hurry!

Wow, impressed with the random variety of it all. But the love of the ling shines through

Basically sale in an AD on a watch id been looking for some time: 50% off pushed me over the edge.

Dont think I could use Ebay as would be concerned about rip offs. But would never pay full price, and would probably look to pick one up on my travels, or via another sale.

I wanted to reward myself for finishing my MBA. I checked out a bunch of watches while on a cruise in Caribbean and decided on a Breitling. I sined up on here, did some research, called my favorite AD and the rest is history. The second Breitling I bought was a preowned Chronomat that I kept for 2 months before selling it for a Panerai 112.

My first Breitling I got just because I wanted to add a splash of color to my wrist - of course it was a coral SO. I got that from an AD, and from then it's been a mix of new from the AD and a few from fellow forum members. Two have come pre-owned from other sources, mainly because I didn't manage to find them elsewhere.

So far I've picked up all of my timepieces used from the bay, craigslist, and various forum classified sections. I appreciate and love nice watches but don't really have the budget to buy them new so buying used is a perfect compromise for me.

I've been hunting for "the one" since that's all I can afford at the moment and I think I found it with my Steelfish black dial. Heavy, robust, sporty, able to dress it up or down, versatile, awesome pro 2 bracelet, crystal that looks invisible, comfortable, etc etc (I could go all day :D ). I got a good deal on it used from a WIS and other than one ding and scratch, it looks almost new. I've been through a few older Tag Heuers and some newer Omegas but Breitlings just seem to be "it" for me.

Easy enough. I keep watches about 4 or 5 years when I get them. Longer for ones I really like or that are limited editions. For expensive watches like Breitling, I typically will run up my credit card and then take two years to pay it off. I don't use it for anything else than this sort of thing, not really. I pay cash for everything else.

I always buy expensive watches like Breitlings new from an authorized dealer. Yes, it is more expensive and I know I could do better on the secondhand market. But the secondhand market is caveat emptor, and there's a lot of REAL GOOD fakes out there. I'm not good enough to not get ripped off by one. And when you buy secondhand, there is no warranty. New Breitlings have a 2-year warranty. And I usually get about 20% off list from the family jeweler I've dealt with for the last 15 years. To each his or her own.
