As I tell me my wife when she asks how many i have...

"The number is not important - it's more than i can wear at one time so let's just leave it at that"...

(it's really about 45 or so...)

I have 5 in my current rotation (although soon to be 6 when Steinhart get around to sending us Mark II).

As I don't wish to buy a watchwinder (as I think the pricing is ridiculous) I find 5/6 more than enough to maintain at any one time.

I'm more likely to sell when I buy from now on although some pieces I will never sell so 6 I think will be about right for now. In 5 years who knows

As the longtimers will attest, I don't reveal my collection, but I will say that 'too many' has to be a very personal decision. I have a number of pocket watches that I never wear, but that I can display and admire for their aesthetic and mechanical beauty. I also have some vintage wristwatches that aren't practical daily wearers, but I don't regret buying them for a second.

What all of my watches have in common is that they mean something to me - big or small. A time in my life, a person, an event, sometimes just remembering what I was doing when I first obtained the piece. That's a meaningful connection that I appreciate whenever I strap the watch on, even if it is only once in a while.

Roff, why do you not disclose your collection? whats the reasoning?

6 at the moment (that's the high-end stuff, not counting G-Shocks, Pathfinders, Luminoxes, heart rate monitors etc...). Most I've had at one time was 9, but I was selling a couple during that period.

I think 6 is a good number, but there are no rules. As long as you're still getting some form of enjoyment out of all of them, you can't have too many.

3 Autos, 2 beaters, and no intention of anything for a while. Probably a result of buying them all in the same year.

I run my own business and so have a fairly public presence there, I also write on a number of project management related topics and have some public exposure through that. Additionally, I obviously have a presence here. All of that results in a lot of PMs and e-mails asking for my opinions, thoughts, experiences, introductions, connections, etc. In short, my life can at times feel very public.

I buy my watches for me and so I feel like it's my business if I choose to share them with other people. In some cases I do that - in the last couple of months I have been very open about sharing my Louis Moinet and Romain Jerome acquisitions, but I don't always feel that it's necessary to share every aspect of my life with other people. You honestly wouldn't believe some of the direct (rude) questions that I get asked, not just on the watch part of my life, and I feel that I have the right to remain private about some elements of my life.

Here here, Roff.
Why anyone would be rude to you when you provide such invaluble information to people such as myself on this website I can't imagine. :lingsrock:

I won't reveal my collection neither. So don't look at my signature.
All I can say is that I have a Citizen Titanium and a Seiko Kinetic Premier Perpetual Calendar.

yeah not quite sure why someone would be rude to the prof either. he always helps out with opinions and even takes time out of his day to help with the PM's. If he wishes to keep his collection for himself...well why not.

Not to mention there is no such thing as privacy anymore~! But makes perfect sense Roff... I'm with you...

Although you already know how many I have... since you and Vintage helped me with all of my acquisitions!~ 8)

It's not just watch related - although there have been a couple of people who expected me to buy a watch for them and then sell it to them because the AD I hooked them up with would only give about 30% and they wanted access to my discount level

As I said I am known a little in the project management community and I get some people who think that it is there right that I should get them a job (or better still give them a job).

Much of my project management writing is also opinion / editorial related which generates opinions (as it is supposed to) and people sometimes have trouble separating the view from the person.

It's a funny old world
