Good point GX9901 - I get the fact that there is a bias (statistical not personal) here towards watch related problems and certainly I felt/feel like "here we go again" except now it's happening to me. The watch was overhauled/serviced in Dec of 2007 by BUK and has been unworn since late 09 so really just 2 years since a complete service. Not sure I agree it's a "previous owner" problem as opposed to a quality of design problem, though I accept the posibility that it was handled roughly by the previous owner which could have contributed to the problem - alas, all speculation and immaterial to me since I get to foot the bill to fix this.
There is plenty on this and other (WUS, TZ, RF) about a multitude of crown related problems across multiple brands (with some notible exceptions). It would be nice to see some of the effort being expended on exotic watch design (silicone parts, new or exotic alloys, etc) being spent on "hardening" some of the old design features in a cost effective manner. Yes I know that doesn't sell more watches and this is a business afterall, and of course innovation is always a good thing, but after this little 'event' on a brand touting itself as "instruments for professionals", it would be nice to see someone develop a "crown that never breaks" or "crystal that never scratches" etc.
Yes, I know this problem could have occured on an Omega (so saying I am switching "back" to them was dumb) or any other brand and issues are not exclusive to Breitling, but in my world at this moment my "instrument" did not live up to my expectations.
