While I love both watches, Tony's pic tells me the Evo is the clear winner. Good choice.

p.s. Tony, you better get going on that laundry :nana:

Last conversation I had on the subject (a few months ago) was that Chronomat was still the biggest seller. The Breitling person I spoke to suggested that dressier watches tend to be more 'buy to keep' than sportier models, and that the Chronomats were more 'keepers' because the great variety in dial / case combos made it easier to find the 'perfect' watch for each individual.

I kinda buy the second argument, not sure on the first.

Both theories sound like bollocks to me. Although perhaps dress watches are more often purchased to commemorate something? I don’t know.

As for the second theory, sure, the Chronomats have lots of variety BUT that is just a drop in the ocean of variety across all watches. There are thousands of different contemporary watches a buyer can see in a few hours in any major city.

There’s no accounting for taste – so some people will buy a two-tone Chronomat with puce dial and Roman indexes (God help them if they ever want to sell it!), but a lot of other people are gonna go for the classic black Navitimer sitting next to it in the display case, and never pine for their Navi to be lilac, you know?

You lost me on this one. We are talking about the best selling Breitling... likely the Chronomat Evo... not sure what your point is here :?: :?:

Well price is causing the dilemma and Croc on deployant is the most expensive non-bracelet option you have. If I were to go to croc, it would have to be on a tang buckle....

And I'm already looking at aftermarket diamond bezels....

The deployant is more money, but the strap will last longer and you'll get your money worth.

Well, I guess there are two points:

1) the ADs theory doesn't really stack up - there is much more scope for finding exactly THE right watch from the larger sample space of the thousands of different watches available than just within the Chrono Evo line; and

2) in my opinion, certain variants of the Chrono Evo look vile. I’m allowed to have that opinion – lot’s of people don’t dig gold/steel together, Roman numerals on chronographs with tachymetres, or coloured dials. Likewise, some people do like to paint their piano green…some folks have fifty glazed ceramic cats in their house, you know? Cats covered in polka dots, gold and red stripped, various poses, part of a collection made by some mad German woman…discovered by Yoko, you know, stuff like that. I mean, I wouldn’t allow such gaudy monstrosities into my house, but those people with the cats are probably still OK. It’s just a question of taste, it’s all cool.

OK, I'll try this one more time...
The discussion and the AD's comments referred to which BREITLING was the most popular model. This has nothing to do with the sample space of thousands of other watches, just those with the Breitling name on them. Among those, it is very likely the Chronomat Evo that is the best seller. Whether it has roman numerals, or purple dial, its still an Evo, and hence is still a great selling watch. I'm sure the black and white dials on SS make up the bulk of the sales, with TT and exotic dials filling in the rest. Clearly there is something about the Chrono Evo line that appeals to a great number of people or it wouldn't be their top seller.

So I don't see how your post about taste, dial colours and roman numerals debunks Roff's conversation about total sales with Breitling SA.

I do agree that it is all a matter of taste and its all good :D

Hey Phil, I was going to make a wise crack about the blue dial, but your pic is just too beautiful to mock  Plus I wouldn't want to anger a man of your stature :D
