A magnetised watch runs faster, not slower.

You are effectively shortening the balance spring thereby decreasing the amplitude and increasing the frequency = increased vph.

I doubt that it is a balance screw issue as that would have backed out over a period of time and would have indicated symptoms of a failure to keep accurate time that got progressively worse.
