Lack of box and papers is one thing that really frustrates me when buying used pieces. People that say they lost them in a house move. Well my usual answer to that is you managed to remember all your old pants, but cant remember to take stuff relating to a $5k watch. Hmmm, right!

I don't mind so much if just one item is missing the warranty book or instructions. Not ideal, but tollerable

Sure you can buy papers for your watch on ebay or any internet sales forum, the problem is that the warranty card and the COSC certificate include the serial number of the watch it was purchased with and will not match the S/N on your watch, ergo, a waste of your money.

Really?

Look closer at this one.. It's blank.

Point is the papers are useless... Look at the watch, and to some degree the seller. Sometimes the seller has no idea they have a fake.

Missing my point here. The warranty card and the COSC certificate that come with the watch when it is manufactured have the serial number of the watch printed on them, ergo, a blank warranty card and COSC are fakes and useless to the buyer.......................

I think we are saying the same thing... The papers are worthless. This example shows how you can make a very authentic looking set of paperwork. There is no way thees papers left the factory blank.

If a buyer believes that the presence of a box and paperwork somehow makes the transaction safer it does not.

Take 1 decent knock off and add a duplicated set of papers, fill in the blanks... $$$$$$$$$$

That's why I focus on the watch.. It's much harder to fake than the paperwork. And of course the seller needs to be good. But even if the seller is good they may not be aware that they have a fake.

I think that many people that would see a watch with all this stuff would believe that it's legit.

That makes me want to throw up! This is why I will never buy second hand again. That is just disgusting!

Hi All !

When one purchases a pre-owned watch from Tourneau they do not provide you with any of the original paraphernalia i.e box & paper work.
However, they do provide you with their own box & their version of paper work. While it is very nice to own the original box & papers for any given watch - what really happens to it ? - it gets place in some drawer or some other place and never really looked at again.

Henceforth, I have become a believer that it is a better value to buy pre-owned. The only difference is you don't get all of the original personal effects that come with the watch. Still the same watch tho!!! As someone else stated in this thread what is important is the watch not the box or the papers. And yes my very first Breitling I bought brand new over a decade ago and I still own it and love it very much - actually I just happen to be wearing it as of this writing - lol !

Best Regards,

Enezdez

P.S - I also feel that buying a brand new automobile is a waste of money too!

I'm going to rise above it Taffy! (If only because it's still a source of embarrassment to me!)

I won't relay the tale again, but suffice to say I used to be firmly in the same camp that MartC's post is in (i.e that "nobody loses papers")............ until it happened to me! Suffice to say I'm a little more tolerant about folks misplacing papers than I once was!

Oh and thanks to Roff for bringing that one up..... AGAIN!

Actually, I think the box is real, isn't it? I thought the fakes were wood, not bakelight, and had thicker sides (if you look at the auction photos, they have a pic of the box opened). The warranty and chronometre certificates look fake, though. Seems like a mishmash. (Wow...my spellchecker knows "mishmash")

I agree with Roff in that everything has a price. I would pay less for the same watch if it lacked papers and the box. However, as we see on this thread, photos of papers and box do not really mean that it is real...it's just one of many things to consider. Ideally I want good pictures, papers, box, a seller with an established rep at whatever venue the ad is posted, and a relatively secure payment method. If any one of these are lacking, I demand more from the others to make up the difference (e.g. really good pics, a more secure payment method like PayPal+Ebay or Escrow.com). It's really the sum total that is important. Everything should add up.

Some of the paperwork looks real..

A fake watch can only have fake paperwork. No one would put fake paperwork with a real watch.

The problem is you can just buy the "real" paperwork and alter it.

This makes me sick....

To me this is why the paperwork is useless. It's actually much easier to duplicate than the watch. If you add this to a very detailed fake you can make a very convincing sale.

Some one is going to buy this crap. It has only 1 use.

I recently bought a Chrono Superocean. The Papers seem to match and my AD didn't question the watch during strap replacement. I guess its nice if your looking to re-sell.
