Hey Chris, some good feedback there :) was really intrigued to know how effective the NVG backlight was in real life situations. You never know how of it is just marketing blurb.

Just bought an Airwolf myself and tried practising on the cardboard slide rule. Anything other than multiplication and I'm lost. Never used any form of slide rule before and remembering to treat 12 as 120 etc in certain calculations gets a bit  As a pilot are you used to slide rules and do you use the one on the 'Wolf?

I use my airwolf slide rule/whizzwheel/prayer wheel daily at work. Mainly for fuel consumption & fuel weight conversions. ie. converting litres of fuel into kilos for aircraft loading & performance figures. The ratio use of it is where its at though. ie knowing how long to set your timer to remind you when a fuel tank is getting low to turn pumps on/off etc. Also I just remembered, sometimes we need to accurately convert statute miles to nautical to kms. This is for visibilities in fog & for icing equipment etc.
Pilots in my country require to know how to use a rotary slide rule for licensing reasons. Generally the more you use it the better you become. Some things become easier than using a calculator. My background is an airline pilot. Even on some of the most modern jets airliners, the sliderule is very handy to have.
Also good for currency conversions too.
cheers Davo

Eh... personally, I haven't used whizz wheels too much since pilot training. All my aircraft have been very modern and advanced with computers and such. That's not to say that it CAN'T be useful for me, I'm just going to havge to play with it. So far, I agree, though--it's tough to remember which index to use, what each red triangle means, and whether to use the inner or outer scale for things
