But the vast majority of Navis have 1/4 second dials.

Hi Roff!

Have a Follow up question - Can one simply look at a Navitimer Dial/Watch and determine the scale? In other words can can we tell by looking at the dial - if the scale is 1/4 or 1/5?

Best Regards,

Enezdez

Yep, just count the marks between the seconds - 3 = 1/4, 4 = 1/5.

Also, if it ain't a fighters - it's 1/4

Roff,

Just curious, is my Bentley Motors different due to the 30 second Chrono ?

The ETA7750 is 8Hz, as all the 28,8kvph-s are. The Bentley is also 28,8kvph, so every 7750 based breitling could be 1/8 accurate.

As I explained earlier, 28,800 is NOT 8Hz, it's 4Hz. Just count the ticks of the seconds hands!

As bnewbie says (and why I added the caveat about 60 second chronos earlier) the Motors can do 1/8th of a second because of the gearing to a 30 second chrono - although I'll need to check a Motors chrono sweep and see how that's implemented as there are some logisitcal challenges.

Which beats at 21,600 BPH (3hz) and yet is spec'ed as a 1/5th second chronograph with the appropriate dial markings... Gotta tell you kids, not only did Breitling re-gear the 1873 to run as a 24 hour movement, the chronograph gearing was also set to a 3/5 ratio to match the 1/5th second specification. I happen to be holding my Display Back Cossie in my hand right now and it is indeed quite easy to count the five steps of the chronograph hand between the second marks. I would be laughing if it was only stepping three times between the marks. Go back through the Chronologs and take a look at how many of the chronos are spec'ed at 1/5th second. Don't think for a 1/4th of a second that a 7750 chrono can't be geared 4/5 when Breitling rips the ebauche apart for rebuilding to the Brand's standards...
Best,
Ron

It doesn't depend on the gearing, it all depends on the balance. I dunno if it's 4 or 8 Hz, but an ETA7750 beats 8 times a second ,thats sure bro :)

28,800/3600=8 that would be 8Hz, but these are half oscillations if I remember correctly (something in the movement  ), so real oscillation would be 4Hz.
