Are these "GIFT CARDS"...meaning that they have an actualy value? Someone usually buys a GIFT card for a certain dollar amount, and you can use some of the money on the card now, some later or all at once. Or are these $1000 discount cards, which is the same as getting a discount at any other AD. I assume with the DISCOUNT card you can't negotiate off the MSRP. With a gift card, its the same as using cash, so you should be able to haggle alot more.

Have you checked to see if you can use the $1000 off coupon with the (I'm guessing) $1000 Amex reward points gift certificate? Both cards say they cannot be used with any other promotion.

It is true that the Amex promotion (being a promotion) can not be combined with the other promotion, but I actually have a Citibank MasterCard with the Thank You network, and what I get is an actual gift card, as if someone had paid tourneau a $1k to give me this gift card and will be treated like cash, and can thus be combined with a promotion such as a card for a $1k discount. (I've called both Tourneau and the Thank You network about this).

Please note that (depending on which state you live in) just because you buy an expensive item over state lines does not me it's not taxable. It just means the state you buy the item in cannot tax you since you aren't a state resident. You still will owe taxes and not paying them can be considered cheating on your taxes. I don't mean to ruin anybody's fun :( Just an FYI.

No fun ruined, the one thing I learned in my fed tax class is that the name of the game is to pay your taxes as late as possible, the idea being $X now can be used to make $Y that you otherwise will not have been able to pay. $228 with 5% will only make $11 in a year, but it is a bargaining chip to use to get more out of the AD.

You should have negotiated a deal with the salesman before you wipped out your $1000 gift card.

Just to be clear, these $1k discount coupons may not be combined with other promotions, and tourneau considers a bargained discount, so the two may not be combined. ...I agree though that $1k on a SA is only 17% off, so one could do better simply bargaining without the discount. However, since I can combine the discount with the "free" gift cards I can get around 39% discount if you include sales tax, 44% if you don't include sales tax. ...However, if they offer me a 25% discount combining that with the gift cards would get me a 43% discount, so if they agree to that I'll bite.

I'm trying work a combo deal, $1k with gift cards and $1k with the discount. However, if I get a 25% I'll def close the deal in person.

....Sorry if I've been repetitive, just wanted to try to address all the issues that have been raised. The gift cards are in the mail, when they get here I'll go over the AD's, play some hardball and will report back. I love negotiating!

I think at this price point, you are free to try to negotiate further discounts and freebies on top of your $1K Tourneau discount. Everything is negotiable. My guess is that the Tourneau discount is something that comes from Tourneau HQ (or at least most of it probably does), but the different dealerships are also obviously willing to take a bit off of MSRP on their own dime. I don't know how Tourneau operates (e.g. are their stores franchises or corporate owned, how much latitude do the individual dealerships have on price negotiation), but I would be willing to bet each individual store can come off at least 10% out of their own pocket.

The thing in your favor is that although you are locked into buying from Tourneau, there are many Tourneau stores to choose from. If you are willing to put in some time, you could call a number of them and see if you can get further discounts or freebies from one that is more desperate to make a sale. If one complains about discounting further, just call another one. A good salesperson would probably explain how the discount card works internally for them (e.g. maybe the dealership and HQ split it 50/50 or something like that).

Good luck!
