I agree with most of the posts here. Life is too short.

If you are even thinking of this watch in this way, (going back and forth... should I, shouldn't I?) then I say, get it over with and buy the watch already. You won't be sorry. You will regret it if you don't buy it and: 1. the price goes up or 2. it becomes discontinued.

Buy it and enjoy it.

p.s. What you don't want to do is buy something in place of the watch you really want. That is, to say, if you have the money for the watch you want, don't talk yourself out of it and buy something cheaper. Then, every time you look at the cheaper watch you will say to yourself, "I could have had..." Get the one you want now. No regrets.

Cheers.

The key for me is if you want it and CRUCIALLY you can afford it without your kids starving, your marriage folding, your house being repossessed, or the tax man beating your door down, then I'd say go for it.

If you have set this money aside for a purely personal luxury item, and watches are your "thing", then my advice would be to do it. I've only been worried about a watch purchase once and that was a long time again when I felt I was stretching myself further than I could really afford. Fortunately it wasn't too far for me and I was on top of it pretty quickly, but I made the point of not being in that situation again.

So yes, in summary, if you want it and can afford it, then go for it. As I said in the post you quoted, the cost of the watch over the course of a lifetime is pretty small beans.

This link helped me feal better about spending major money on something not vital to my survival. I was worried about the guilt about spending so much money, but as Roff and many others have pointed out, as long as the bills are paid it's pefectly acceptible. I do know that I have to get my wife something now. She doesn't say it, but I can tell she's a little jealous of my watch fund. I'm trying to turn her on to men's watches. I knew this girl that wore a men's Rolex Sub and I thought it looked hot on her. Maybe I can convince her to buy a Steelfish. Plus we can share watches! :D

Hey Jefferson. I noteced the same. My wife is just a little jelous of my AS, so I´m looking to buy my her a Colt Chrono in the near future too. She tried it once at an AD and I was sold. She has really delicate wrists but it looked sooo cool. She was surprised too how good it looked. I love to spoil her.

In a nutshell (or watch case :D ), If you CAN afford it, you´ve earned it, so go for it!

Agreed! The first time i saw a large watch on a woman was in Los Angeles and it was a Rolex Sub also all stainless steel with a black dial and she had on just jeans and a ripped up tshirt and she looked hott..oh ya and then she climbed into a lamborghini! but still the watch looked nice! I have since gotten my gf to wear large watches she has some small but her biggest is the fighter planes corum bubble watch that her father gave her...this one..http://www.watches.co.uk/watch_pics/lar ... co7297.jpg at first i was never a fan of this watch but honestly it would be a watch i would wear in an instance if you had a big enough collection to just wear it for casual wear. Plus its one of those watches that doesnt really go with anything, there for it goes with everything if that makes sense?

I too lusted after a Navitimer with a brown croc strap for a few years. I didnt choose to buy it, but last April my wife surprised me with one for my 40th b-day. I did, however feel really guilty for plopping down over 1k u.s.d. for a metal braclet today....................that is until I put it on. This is now a summertime watch too ( no worries about sweating the leather up) and it changes the whole look of the watch. My wife and I (as we get older) are looking for things to pass on to the kids once were gone. I cant think of a better keepsake/heirloom than a Breitling. You GET what you PAY for.
I am trying to talk her into one for herself....you know.....for our daughter!!! I also need to remind her that we have TWO sons. Looks like I am one Breitling behind ......by my count!!!!!!! I mean parents cant show partiality right???

The only thing I got to say is the look and comments from people I've met about my ling makes it worth it everday. If women can blow crazy money on purses and shoes, why can't us men have a nice shiny b-ling?

I thought I would have buyers' remorse on my purchase but surprise, surprise, nothing, what a relief. I think this had to do with the fact that the first time I went into the store I walked out empty handed, except for a bottle of water that the salesguy gave me as I sat in the chair for about 30 minutes thinking it over and sweating. I think that as long as the watch funds is not being pulled from the necessities of life that how you choose to spend your money is up to you and you should enjoy it. If you are like me once you have it you will enjoy it basically every single day. I look at mine probably over 100 times a day.

It's been a bit of an adventure, but here she is. Blue dial Avenger Skyland on brown leather strap with deployant.

Guilt? None. Remorse over spending the money? None. Thanks for all the advice. It's a beautiful piece.

The ONLY thing I find myself thinking about is whether I should have purchased a Super Avenger instead. I'm a solid 6' 2" with an 8.5" wrist and perhaps the SA would look even better on me. Due to the popularity of the SA though, I had only the briefest opportunity to try one on and since it was a white dial version with diamonds on the bezel, I couldn't really do a proper apples-to-apples comparison. At the excellent AD (thanks Roff) where I purchased the Skyland, there is a 4-6 week waiting period to order an SA in. When I heard that, my impatience got the better of me.

I've had the watch for 12 hours, and only worn it for 2 hours since I continue to ponder the SA issue. I will see whether I still have these doubts in a day or so.

As a side note, I initially did a deal with George at Govberg on an SA, but CDN taxes and duties were far higher than anticipated and the deal didn't go through. I checked with Customs and apparently sometimes you get lucky and they let it through with no additional duties/taxes while sometimes they throw the entire book at you, which is what happened to me. This made the deal far more expensive than buying locally (even factoring in the 4-6 week local wait) so it didn't make any sense to proceed.

As many others have said though, if you're looking to buy, you need to talk to George. He's a great guy who really understands customer service and the importance of communication. Just ask Justin (jnelson3097) for the contact info. If you're in Canada and are looking for a great CDN AD, ask Roff for his referral. Great experience with them.

What your really feeling is watch loneliness that can only be fixed via buying more Breitlings.

It's like an only child, they need playmates.

fantastic choice! if you still feel the same way about the super avenger in a month or so, start saving! you can always have two watches to swap with now and then. enjoy and wear in good health.

This is my take on your original question (didn't see page2 for a bit!!):

One should only feel guilty if you are hiding your new found addiction - I felt extremely guilty when my wife found my stash of watches - but now she has accepted me as I am she bears with me - I was just using my well earned cash for my enjoyment and it is a hobby. Now she even has come to appreciate something of the beauty of watches - though she still can't quite work out why I actually need more than one :? So - no more guilt.

In terms of buyers remorse - I don't suffer from that - but maybe sellers remorse

Good luck to you!

I get that sick feeling all the time. Esp when my other half takes me shopping & she spends $400 on clothes which will be thrown out within a year. Yes I'm tight, but if I spend money its on quality. I'll get around in clothes on sale(no labels) but wear my B'ling, & can justify a $5k watch that will last a lifetime(many after it gets passed on). I rationalize it by thinking most things in life come & go, but your watch, a good one, you will die with. If it reflects who you are it can be something to be remembered with. In the meantime you will enjoy it more often than a new car. You wear one all the time!

good luck with the mental tug-o-war.
