$2,695 - 20% discount = $2,156.

Sorry - I was off by $56. Who knew you guys were such sticklers for math?

So should I have used different wording? I know the MSRP is $2,695 - but with the exception of a few areas, I understand it is pretty easy to get at least a 20% discount on Breitlings. There are several dealers here in downtown Chicago that offer a 25% right off the bat without even negotiating....and again, in my opinion, that doesn't really speak to exclusivity.

That's cool! What makes ME feel exclusive is walking into a high end anything, calmly stating what I want and my terms, and hearing "Yes sir. Will that be Visa or Master Card?' / "Personal check." / "Yes sir."

Heck, I've gotten that same 20% you refer to on a new Pam 320, 15% on a Rolex GMT IIc and neither experience made me think less of the brand or the dealer and it certainly made me feel eerily exclusive, for the moment at least.

I expect a discount on large ticket items. It doesn't diminish the experience for me - it heightens it! "No discount? Have a lovely day, I have other matters to which to attend." Regardless of whether the price difference was irrelevent to my finances of the moment. Dealer margins or 45-55% for Christ sake! They can allocate some of that to me, or I can politely take my business elsewhere.
So what's the big deal here?

Yes. You don't want us inferring your meaning, so say what you mean.

How are we to know that if you don't say it? You said the watch "retails" at $2100. At least two of us read that as meaning the MSRP is $2100. And please don't say we're inferring without merit. If you can't write in a way that your meaning is clear, that's not our fault. Take some ownership already.

WoW, this thread took on a whole new life of its own in the past few days. This is the place for opinions ,and we are all entitled to them, some may disagree with each other but its good to clear the air . I am just puzzled with the Breitling is not a luxury brand part?

do you honestly think there is a differance from msrp and retail? i think you are just throwing numbers out there with out knowing. you said you can buy the superocean II for under 2k brand new at one of your ads? i dont think you know at all, i think you are still throwing these prices of the top of your head. like i said before, ive been looking at several places to buy the new superocean and its been a hard find, finally i had to order one from george at govbergs . he informed me that this his a hot watch right now and everything is on backorder. it will take 8 weeks, and they arent giving no 25% discount on them either. so i find it hard to believe that your ads are giving them away at 25% discount by just walking through the door, no negotiating!! enjoy your omega seamaster, i will take the new superocean. steve

I could of bought the SO II BLACK ON BLACK with the ocean racer strap for 2190 brand new from an Ad. I had this Ordered in July ,and decided to cancel the order ,as I was tired of waiting for the black on black. The other colors were readily avail . There are deals out there , you just have to shop around.

me too Sharkman. I totally expect a discount. And you are right if the dealer will not give me what i want then I will find someone else who will appriciate my business. Now i understand that the dealer still needs to make money...after all they are running a business and not a charity. Regardless of whether I can afford to cough up the extra dough...i still like saving money. Cant help it...its the asian in me...lol!

I don't see where he said he could get it for under $2k. He's made it clear that he meant $2100 was the discounted price, and that equates to roughly a 25% discount off retail. That doesn't sound to me like he's making prices up out of thin air. The only issue I see concerning his statement of the SOII price was the confusion over his use of the term "retail."

im sure there are, i paid $2,200 for mine and if i wanted to look even harder i may have found a better deal.but right now i would rather build a relationship with george at govbergs. i bought my seawolf from him a few months ago, he realy went out of his way for me and that is worth a lot to me, so i may have paid a little more with him but in the long run it just might save me some money? steve

Actually, it was on page 8; I didn't go back far enough. Still, it doesn't seem too outlandish a claim. $1900 would represent a 30% discount off of retail; $1999 would be around 26% off retail. I've heard of dealers discounting by that much. If Martini has personal knowledge of such discounts on the SOII, I'll take his word for it.
