Hi,

I´m new to this terrific forum, that helped me out a lot when it came time to make the jump. So thanks for that! :D

I´ve been looking at Breitlings for six years now. I got the bug when my ex boss showed his new Ling Navitimer with ss-bracelet and asked what do I think of the brand. He explained me the brands history, heritage and values. I was very impressed with the quality, style, attention to detail, sturdines and over all presence of the watch. It felt absolutely rock solid with loads of style. Just like a mans watch should. I´ve been playing around for years with fashion quartz watches. They look great and some are quite well made and finished. Still they never felt right.

So when I got married a little over a month ago, my wife said that I´ve been looking at REAL watches long enough. So she would buy me a new Ling as a wedding present!!! This started a two week journey to find the Ling that would feel right and suite me. Where we live there are only two official Breitling dealers. With them I started my hunt. I got the chronolog/catalogue and tried on some models. I spent many nights searching the net for information of movements, styles, sizes and features. It´s been so easy to admire these pieces from a distance, but to deside on a one model... Well we all know the excrusiating, but absolutely wonderful pain of that! Their all so seductive. Wich one is really the right one? I tried other high end brands too. Many of them were very nice, but just didn´t do it for me.

Ive always loved the look of a chronograph and I like the weight, feel and style of a bigger watch. only it couldn´t be too flashy, because it was supposed to be an everyday wear. It still needed to have enough presence to look right with a suit or a night out. It should also be rugged enough to be able to be worn in sports and have a good water resistance. So I needed a true allrounder.

After a lot of comparisons, on the finnishline I had the Chronomat, Super Avenger and Avenger Skyland. I love the Chronomats detailing with chrome markers and hands, but it´s too flashy to be worn in meetings with clients. For me it felt maby just a little bit small too. The SA:s size is nice. It´s fashionable and very now, but it was too big for my small wrist. And if fashion changes towards the small ones... will it still feel right? So both are really cool, but neither of them felt just right as a first B´ling thing.

So my choise was the Avenger Skyland with the black dial and proII bracelet. PERFECT!!! :D I bought it from a local dealer. I got good service and I think the whole experience was great. After wearing it now for three weeks it´s been growing on me even more. (Which I´ve read usually happens with Breitlings.) The rugged dial keeps the flash factor in check and the proII adds to it some show, juust right. I think the stencil numbers give it a little youthful twist, which is great. Also with the cool contrast of the b&w dial, you can dress it up and down with black or white shirts, dark suits or even t-shirts. Any which way you like. And also In the future I can always tone it down easily with a black leather strap with white stitching.

...Aaand there´s always the next one, of course! :D ...Maybe that Navitimer that started it all?

So, mission accomplished... For now. ;) It´s been a thrilling adventure. I´ve noticed that "how, why, which, what" are very frequently asked. Hopefully my approach to beeing a new Lingthusiast gives future Ling-ers (who are lucky enough to go for one of these beauties) some ideas what they can do when it´s time, for their first time... which is memorable for all of us.

I added some pictures of my new monster.

Thanks for reading!!! :lingsrock:

Welcome! That AS is a beautiful piece. I always say it is one of the sexiest mens watches ever made. A fellow at my AD has got one just like that, and he also added an Ocean Racer strap, which looks amazing on it as well.
Also those are some of the best AS pics I have seen, really bring out the shine on the watch.
I am sure you will continue to enjoy it.
Cheers,
Carl

Thanks guys for the warm welcome! :D I´m sure I´ll enjoy my time spent here. I´m glad you liked the pix, I tried to make it show the AS as it really looks when you pick it up.

Jefferson good luck on your hunt. Try them on and one will start to hunt you a little more. After you´ve decided which, you´ll enjoy the great excitement and relief it brings, when you finally get your hands on that right one!

Aleister thanks, she really is a find!

Carl I agree, the Ocean Racer does fit it perfectly too.

Cheers

The lighting in your pics is awesome. It looks like the skyland just got out of a fresh chrome bath.
