Bit of a departure for Breitling today, an e-mail that is more than simply a new model introduction, rather a positioning of the entire range of reworked Avengers.

Looking past the usual silly Breitling hyperbole, if this is the start of trying to clarify range positions in the marketplace then I am a big fan. The wording, not so much......

THE AVENGER RAMPS UP THE POWER

As authentic instruments for professionals, the models in the Avenger line have been redesigned in a style that is even more technical, functional and sophisticated. An exceptional look for these trustworthy companions on the most extreme missions.

Absolute power. Steely muscles. Peerless performances. Extraordinary precision. The Avenger by Breitling has been designed to offer a maximum of security and reliability. A maximum of sturdiness and shock-resistance with its robust construction and its substantial lateral reinforcements. A maximum of functionality, with its large screw-locked crown and non-slip grip. A maximum of readability, with its thick glareproofed sapphire crystal and its oversized hands, numerals and hour-markers.

Breitling now gives a new face to outstanding accomplishments by redesigning the entire Avenger line in a resolutely original style. The slimmer case adopts an even more ergonomic profile. The new stencil-type numerals with their taut, dynamic lines, further strengthen the ties with aviation. The new engraved and satin-brushed bezel is adorned with integrated rider tabs. The readability is optimized by large hands and hour-markers accentuated by a luminescent coating. Titanium casebacks – bearing a conversion scale for Anglo-Saxon metric measurements – keeps the case lighter.

The new Avenger II collection comprises four models endowed with highly distinctive functions and characters. Four instruments for all manner of missions:
• the Avenger II chronograph, featuring a 43 mm diameter, water resistance to 300 m (1,000 ft) and pushpiece guards screwed into the steel
• the Super Avenger II chronograph, boasting an imposing 48 mm diameter and also water-resistant to 300 m (1,000 ft)
• the professional super-diver model Avenger II Seawolf, water-resistant to the fabulous depth of 3,000 m (10,000 ft) and equipped with a security valve serving to equal out the differences of pressure between the inside and the outside of the case
• the new Avenger II GMT, with an extremely practical and readable second timezone display in 24-hour mode, a bidirectional rotating bezel serving to read off a third time zone, as well as water resistance to 300 m (1,000 ft).
The Avenger models are available in several dial colors, with stencil-type numerals or hour-markers, on a rubber strap or on the new Professional bracelet with redesigned links. They are all equipped with mechanical selfwinding movements chronometer-certified by the COSC, the highest industry benchmark in terms of precision and reliability – and the only one based on an international norm.

Avenger: power in action.

Thanks Roff. The Avenger line has always been my favorite, and so far I like what I hear. My only avenger now is the CA, but I asked my AD to order the GMT. I hope it doesn't disappoint!

As you say, the now 'usual silly Breitling hyperbole' is fairly dominant in the prose - "steely muscles" anyone? - but I totally agree that communications like this to position the various ranges can only be a good thing. Plus I think the Avenger line is looking pretty good these days.

I like the sound of a 43mm case (Avenger II chrono), will have to see the what the thickness is.

Hope the GMT model is similar 43mm size (just checked website and looks also to be 43mm :D ) Awaiting further size specs. (thickness and weight).

This represents the best thing Breitling has done in years IMO - dropping the case size from 45mm to 43mm, brushed case, bringing back stenciled dial arabics with a baton option, a reasonable looking bezel. Dang, this has my interest. About $4400 for the GMT and $5500 for the chrono - legit numbers. No secret here the CA is what got me looking at Breitling and two ASs that were just to big on the bracelet for me show how much I like the looks of the Avenger. My only question is whether they lengthened the lugs? If not, I have something to look at in the new Breitling's that truly excites me and THAT hasn't happened in a long time. :)

I can't wait to try on a 43mm avenger. I might sell my old one and pick up one that size. A nice evolution with this line, I'm really glad they did this.

Do agree. So much prefer brushed for de-blinging the larger watches.

After further thought, I'm not sure if I will like the 43mm case. I personally like the 44-45mm range. I do find a slimmer case and titanium caseback appealing, but I will have to really see them before I pull the trigger. I have gotten used to my 40mm Sub C - it just works. Let's hope I can adjust to the Avenger GMT without thinking it's too small.

Just watched the 2 minute avenger video on the Breitling website, cool ad I wish they added some new dial colors like a black eye gray would of been nice in the SA they definately eliminated a few dials, I like the silver dial but would have to see it in person, it looks almost light yellow on the website.

Looks like the bezel is brushed, but the rest of the case is still bling bling polished. Guess I'll be waiting for the Blacksteel version which will hopefully have a brushed finish everywhere.

Even polished, that's ok with me. Even at 43mm, I'm sure the pieces won't appear small on the wrist, even those not wrist- challenged like some of us. ;) The Avenger looks big no matter what.

I have to agree with Watch nut on the silver dial, looks a bit yellowish to me, but in the video it looked shiny silver. Maybe it will be more of a chameleon effect changing with different lighting situations. I like the bezel alot, and also the subdials. Ill pick up a new SA when I can afford one for sure.

I'm positive some of the clips from the video were taken from Marine and navy recruiting commercials.

Also, just got a call from my AD; my Avenger GMT is in! However, it is POLISHED. :? I prefer brushed and was hoping it was brushed like the previous Seawolf. I will have to make a trip to see it in person.....
