Hello all, I have just completed a trade for Breitling Superocean Steelfish XL 44mm, black face.

This is my first breitling, i have long admired the brand

Currently the watch is on a bracelet. The owner had the centre links professionally brushed to give the watch a more toolish look.

I would like to try it on a leather strap however.

Does anyone here wear one on a leather strap and can they recommend a strap that works well?

Don't understand the bracelet. The whole thing comes brushed already from the factory...

Ah right, so it's on a Pro I bracelet is it? All the Pro II's came fully brushed.

I like straps on Breitlings, and both the genuine calf and croco straps are excellent quality (although the croco is mega expensive by comparison!), but I would always recommend buying one on a deployant. It looks nicer and also means the strap will last longer as it reduces tension on the leather.

Personally I'm a stickler for original Breitling equipment so I wouldn't recommend aftermarket straps, but it's each to his own.

yep thats it, a pro 1 bracelet, that now looks like a pro 2

there are some guys making some super custom straps now, so for half the cost of a real breitling strap i think id rather get handmade custom.

Do the OEM 22mm straps taper or are they 22mm wide at the ends?

I am thinking of a 'toshi' strap

I only have Breitling leather straps when there is a leather strap on my watches, so I can't help you in the hunt...

Current OEM's taper from 22mm at the ends to 20mm at the clasp.

I'm sure there are some pretty good aftermarkets out there, but I'm just a slave to all things Breitling! (Fortunately for me Breitling do make some of the best manufacturer straps on the market though). I even go as far as original equipment spring bars!

Agree with you on the Breiting Straps Driver. They do have some of the absolute best straps on the market. I guess I'm a slave to all things Breitling as well...

And another vote for OEM here - the quality is just amazing, unbeatable in my opinion, and I'm just not comfortable with having an incredible watch on what I perceive to be a lesser quality strap than I feel it deserves. Of course as has been said, to each their own.

Welcome to the Breitling loony bin. My Steelfish came on the
Pro II, but I may soon pick up a black Ocean Racer for it. The OR
is a fantastic strap, and I also have a blue one on order for my
Skyland.

I do have a honey-colored croco with deployment sitting in my drawer
(it came off of my Evo) which may some day find its way onto the
Steelfish. It's nice to have a variety of straps to choose from, even if it
takes a while to acquire them. (They aint cheap! )

Driver was right: if possible get genuine Breitling products -- superior
quality and they'll last a lot longer. Anyway, have fun with your Fish,
and make sure it gets lots of water time.

i must get a look at an oem strap, they must be super quality

i cannot imagine that they are so much better than a hand made custome strap? but i havent handled one

Add me to the mix. The OEM straps are superior to just about any other leather strap out there regardless of cost.

True about the deployant, but you can buy like 3 tang straps for the price of the deployant strap. The only way I could justify the deployant, is if its something that really appealed to me aesthetically. Otherwise, I think tang is the way to go.

Based on the prices in the current UK Chronolog -

24mm Croco strap for deployant £330
Steel deployant clasp £145

compared with...

24mm Croco strap for tang and buckle £330
Steel tang buckle £15

The straps are identical in price. It's only the clasp that cost more and that's a one-off payment.

Same is true for the leather straps - both the deployant and tang and buckle straps are £80.

I know.. I guess we just see it differently. Since the deployant can only be used on one strap at a time, I dont consider the fact that it can be re-used.

But, you can only have one strap at a time attached to the watch?
