I am a happy, HAPPY man today!! :D

I've just got the absolute deal of the century from my AD on a brand new black dial Bentley Motors on the Speed bracelet!

I just dropped into the store on my way from a meeting in another office (naughty, naughty! :) ) and started chatting to the manager who I know pretty well while he was doing a bit of stock-taking. He was going on about how they need to sell so many Bentley's per year to retain the Bentley licence as an AD, and was saying how they haven't been selling too many of late. (I guess the cost of living here is starting to pinch a bit). Then he started asking about whether I'd be interested in a Bentley myself..... "Ah ha" I think - looks like he may need to shift a Bentley to keep the books ticking over.

So anyway, to cut a long story short, a bit of negotiation ensued and the fact that I reminded him that I have been a good customer to them for over 10 years now (often paying full retail for items), coupled with the fact that recently I bought my SA from there.... and the fact that I've also put down a deposit on a couple of non-watch jewelery items for my g/f within the last week(!)......, AND his apparent desire to sell a Bentley today, meant that I have just paid for a brand new Motors (black dial, Speed bracelet) with a discount of...... wait for it..... close to 30%!!!! To say I am shocked is an understatement! This is clearly a total one-off and a "right place, right time" situation, but suddenly my years of loyalty appear to have paid off!

The only annoyance (and it's a pretty minor one) is that he has to order in the bracelet as he didn't have one in stock, so I haven't got it today. :(

Rest assured as soon as I have it I'll be posting pics!

SWEET..........is your dealer a chain or independent?.....

I love those right time right place deals...happened to me a while back when I bought an A series lefty PAM 26 PVD luminor marina for 15% discount £1600 or so...not bad when it was one of only 200....sold it a few years later for nearly 5 x that ...was made an offer i simply couldn't refuse!

pictures live on on paneristi however

That was a nice Panie there, Doc!

My AD guy is an independent, but from what I gathered from him this deal is a serious one-off and normal service (i.e. little or no discount) WILL resume again from now on!

But I'm not complaining in the slightest today. A black dial Motors on the Speed bracelet was my "watch-to-get" this year, so I'm very happy! :D

So, my takeway from that story is this: Skip work, go watch shopping, and good things happen. Got it. ;)

What a great story. It speaks volumes to building a realtionship with your local AD. You just never know.

Congrats on a great watch at a great price, wear it in good health.

Thanks MoreCowbell. As I say, I think this is a real one-off, but it does show that a bit of "relationship management" with your AD (and a healthy dose of good fortune on the day!) can yield the occasional bargain.

But then again when you average out this discount with others of generally around 5% or less that I usually seem to get over here, then overall it's not up there with the 10 to 15% that you Stateside guys can regularly achieve on purchases.....

But like I say, I'm certainly not complaining today!! :D Can't wait to get it now!

That's great, Driver! Congratulations! Not only "right time, right place", but it seems also that "right model" got into the game! I'm really happy for you, and hope you get it soon!

Well done ! 30% from an AD is amazing. I reckon it can be beaten though, maybe by buying a new Breitling from the same AD every month for twelve months, the 12th one may just eclipse your 30%...
My plan is sound, I'm sure of it.

Nice work!

My latest Navitimer purchase was something of a surprise too. My wife called me from our jeweler and asked me which Breitling I was after. Went down to the AD that day and picked it out. I knew I'd wanted a Navitimer but didn't think when I woke up that morning I'd be buying one :D

Driver8,

Smart move, you will love the Bentley and I'm glad to hear you got it on the speed bracelet. The Speed bracelet with the 24 MM is great the way it expands in width into the watch. You already have the SA as I do and I can tell you that the 2 are the perfect combo. I usually wear my SA for about 4 or 5 days in a row and then when I slip on the Bentley it's always a pleasure. Then after a few days with the Bentley when you go back to the SA it looks and feels HUGE again like when it was new because you know how you get used to the size. Since I have these 2 I haven't bought any Lings because these 2 really do the job. That's why I'd like to see an EVO come out in 2 tone at 48 MM. Also you are going to love the 30 second chronograph feature . See, I told you about 6 months ago that if you just listened to me that one day you would wise up and become a FULL LING guy. Congratulations, now don't disappoint me by coming back here in a few months and announcing that you did something perverted like putting a Croco strap on the Bentley.
