I honestly don't know Rick.

I still believe all of the statements that I have made today - it would really surprise me, but I can't discount it if the claimed sources on other forums are correct.

I've made a couple of phone calls, but not sure that I'll get a response.

Yes it may be one of the best of it's kind, but it's still a 2824 by it's very design. That's why I feel we can quite easily compare the two.

Agreed. We can easiliy compare the global design, but not the quality of finish and the performance (short-term accuracy as well as long-term stability).

Until someone does a side by side tear down of the movements, we won't know where the differences lie or of what value they add to reliability or performance. FWIW, the half a dozen standard ETA based watches in my collection perform equal or better to the 3 auto Breitlings I own. Doesn't make them bad, just that I'm not seeing higher performance out of these movements. By perform, I am basing it on short (< 1 week) and medium (30 days on wrist) term precision and accuracy. All my auto watches have been very stable in both regards over the life I've owned them. I generally keep detailed timing logs of my watches when I first get them. My findings (fully wound daily on and off wrist and wrist wound only after initial full wind) have been pretty much spot on with the timing machine at my AD.

I would love to know exactly how a B17 differs from a 2824, not for bragging rights, but education.

I think much of this speculation and discussion goes away as Breitling shifts to using in house movements in more of their line.

Not really.

I got some non denial denials - 'Do you really think that we would do that?'

So I'm trying a few more contacts.

My gut says that if they are using Sellita it's not for ebauches, but quite possibly for plates that they can then put their own train, mainspring barrels, balance, etc on top, but still trying to get more clarity.
