That wasn't working. However I was trying all of this while the watch was on its pseudo wrist in the box (pretty tight), I managed to get it off (lost a bit more skin) and tried this technique while on my wrist. Happy to report that worked just fine.

PS - I removed part of the pseudo wrist in the box so now I can take it in and off with ease.
