could one of you Brits help this Yank out and tell me what the current British pound is worth in US dollars?

Steve - use Google to give you current exchange rates quickly.

OP - I just bought a slightly used 'ling off of eBay myself. After a bad experience (that ended well) with a fake off of the 'bay, I won't buy another one without box and papers.

Dropped by my AD to have him check out the new one (Montbrillant) and although he said it's a nice (authentic) watch, he thinks I paid too much. Well, of course I did! I didn't buy a new one from him! But he says that the market (at least in the USA) for used watches has really fallen recently due to the economy, and there are some bargains out there.

Oh well, live and learn.

But back to the original questions - yes, if the seller will not provide actual, sharp, in-focus pictures and answer questions, then they are either very lazy or non-legit, and I wouldn't bother with them if I were you.

Michael

I have bought both of my Breitlings off of Ebay. The first was about 3 years old but in excellent shape and I got it for 60% off list. The second was brand new and I got it 50% off list. The new one does not have the Breitling warranty, but it came from a prominent estate jeweler and they warrant it. My wife also got her pre-owned B&M Hampton Milleis Mini 18K 52-diamond Tiffany limited edition (talk about a knock-out watch!) off of Ebay for about a third the original price.

In all cases, we purchased from a reputable seller with brick-and-morter locations who provided plenty of high-res pictures and a stated guarentee of authenticity. The Breitlings also came with all boxes and paperwork.

Great deals can be found. You just have to be patient and resist the urge to buy from a seller if there is anything that is the least bit squirrely. There are also plenty of sellers who want way too much money, but their stuff stays up there a long long time which is why there always seems to be so much of it.
