Hi,
I'm a newbie here, great site.

My Fiancee is buying me a watch for a wedding gift so I'm currently looking around.
I was going to go for a TAG at the start but then the Brietling caught my eye, they are a far
better looking watch.

The Chrono-matic caught my eye, i thought it was very nice and I liked the 60's/70's look from it too
even though I'm only 29...the crown is on the lhs which just puts the icing on the cake, looks deadly.
Has anyone got this watch? would you recommend it.

Would it look ok for everyday use?

I see the new chrono-matic 49 doesn't have the crown on the left hand side but it also looks like a fab watch.
I dont know what to do...I'm going to try on a few today.

Cheers

Hi and welcome aboard.

You hit the nail on the head when you said you're going to try a few on today. There's no substitute for that I'm afraid.

Even though the Chronomatic and the CM49 share the same "DNA", they are quite different pieces. The CM (which is actually discontinued now) is 44mm across, has a steel bezel and has the left hand crown, which is exactly where the crown should be on a Chronomatic if this historical aspect of the watch is important to you. The CM49 by contrast is 49mm in diameter (which may not sound much different to 44mm, but trust me it makes a LOT of difference on the wrist!), has a rubber bezel and the crown on the right (which is the "wrong" side from a historical perspective).

Personally (and this is only my personal opinion) I'd go with the CM on all aspects except for the size as I always feel the 44mm could do with being a little bigger. Not 49mm, but probably 46mm...... which unfortunately Breitling don't make!

However, to return to the start again, you just need to try a couple on and one will definitely leap out at you. Good luck!

Hi Driver,
Cheers for the quick reply.
Yeah I think the CM looks better than the CM49.
I think the face is ok as I don't want anything too big as I want to
wear it for everyday use, don't want it too bling.

The store is a Brietling dealer, it was 4850euro and there giving it to me for 3000euro.
I have choice of the black or white face, how many years is this model out?
Is it a good deal? oh and that comes with the silver bracelet.

I also don't like the rubber on the CM49 so i think i have a winner - the CM....

I don't know how long the CM has been in the shop window so should i get them to send it away for a service, could be in the store over 2 years for all I know.

Black or white, if i go black I can also buy a black leather strap so it would go with watch...

cheers man.

Definately go to an AD an try them on...and try to find a dealer with a nice selection of Breitlings. I know of people(including myself) that went in to an AD with their mind set on a particular model and left with something totally different. You'll know which one is right, because you won't stop thinking about it until you have it! Once you figure out which watch, the next tough choice, you already asked..white or black dial!

As others have said, you need to try them both on to tell. For me, the heritage is important and the CM49 loses me because of the right hand crown which goes in the face of what the chrono-matic is all about. I also am not a fan of the rubber bezel on the 49.

However, this isn't going to be my watch - try it on, take into account your fiancee's opinions and buy the one that calls to you.

Just stay away from those Tags!

Good luck with the decision.

I cant comment on the CM49. I have never tried one on. What I can say is that the Chrono-matic is the most comfortable wearing watch I own. The relatively thin 13.6mm X 44mm diameter size is perfect . And I think as others have said that the left hand crown is what this watch is all about.

It is all about you though. When you go to the AD and look around you may find something entirely different that you like. Let us know what you decide though!

Cheers

I "owned" a 49mm chronomatic, traded it for a Navi world, and since I didn't have the experience with the old version it seemed fine to me. I have huge wrists so it wore well and it is a very well done piece. After learning about the old style and seeing one my opion changed. I perfer the smaller more traditional version. As you have been hearing try on as many as you can. The right watch will be an easy choice. Hopefully it will be a Breitling, if not you are welcom to stick around the fourm. Sooner or later you wil "catch it".

Best, Mark

hi all,
Sorry about the late reply, you are probably wondering how I'm getting on.

Wasn't mad about the chronomatic on the wrist, your right saying you know when its
on your wrist.

I tried on different models and I like the Super Avenger as the dial is 48mm diameter and the watch just looked great on
my wrist. They only had the steel bracelet but I would like to try the black steel too to see which is the right one to
purchase.

Another one I like is the Chronmat B01. I have 1 month to decide.

Has anyone got the Super Avenger or the B01 ?

Another reason I dont like the chronomatic is because it wouldn't be great for everday use, someone said if it got wet it might stop working.???
