Are many parts replaced with better grade componenets, ala IWC?

This has been discussed a lot lately....

Yes, Breitling replace many parts - they don't like advertising exactly what is replaced but their are four options:

1) Use the original part
2) Test the original part and use if it meets the tolerances required by Breitling
3) Rework the original part to tighter tolerances
4) Replace the original part

And of course all of the assembly and testing is done by Breitling (and COSC obviously do their tests too).

Roff, have you found out more about the 7750 being produced entirely by Breitling?
Actually I haven't got any reasonable reply from the forum here in Switzerland.
Maybe you could find out more.

Nothing that I would put my name to - yet.

The rumour that I'm hearing is that Breitling have been doing it as a 'dry run' of the production processes for their own caliber - i.e. trying to perfect the production cycle before the B01 was production ready. Supposedly that was in order to facilitate the 50,000 units per year production numbers.

While I can't argue with the logic of that, I don't completely trust the sources yet - people that normally talk to me are very much in 'lockdown' mode now and likely won't resurface until April.

Thanks Roff

Please don't forget this open question after Basel 09, since after Basel 09 everybody will only talk about the new B01 and questions like the one posted by the OP might be forgotten, although this might be the most interesting open question for many on this forum.

Thanks.

V.
