Just a silly question me and a couple of friends brought up this weekend after a beers! Can I do any damage to my automatic watches while riding my Harley?

nah, i wouldnt worry about it, its stronger than you think. i have ridden well over 100k on my bikes with breitlings on. never a glitch. and some of them were solid mount bikes adn rigid frames!!. ride on brother

I asked the same question some time ago. I'm personally not taking the chance.

its alot of vibrations. God forbid you get into an accident it may be damaged. There was one user on here whoh miraculously wasnt hurt. His steelfish believe it or not was still running.

Be careful maybe you could wear a quartz when riding and switch the watch when you aren't.

Well wouldn't claim to be an expert, but I don't see the problem. Mechanical watches tend to suffer from problems with high g forces generally associated with sudden impact- like striking a golf ball for example.

The vibrations from a motorcycle would be less severe, but over a prolonged period of time. I think Greaves makes the pertinent point - if it's good enough for aircraft then it's good enough for motorcycles.

Keep ya posted. I rode over 250 miles with my LING this weekend. It was the SA's first trip on the Harley. Watch looks good with all the chrome.

It's the crashing that concerns me. On the sportbike it's not even an option as I can't wear any watch. The Alpinestars MotoGP Pro gloves go well over my wrist, and is tight just going over my paws.

On the chopper or cruiser I've worn my watches before but get paranoid about dumping it with one on.

I ride a 2007 Wide Glide with a few mods and if I had a serious crash I think my watch would be the very least of my concerns.

Thank you "voice of reason". I tell you, if you crash on a HSIP (High speed idiot pitcher) what happens to the $2-14K Breitling is a pittance compared to what you can look forward to with your body. I doubt I need to bring up what I do again, but sufficient to say, you DO NOT want to meet me professionally. Never mind the Bling, worry about the brain!

why don't you stick a cheap cycle computer on your handlebars and leave the expensive
watches at home like I do. My laverda would distroy my blackbird with the vibes.

As a former motorcyclist who had a significant career change after a drunk soldier pulled his car out in front of my bike, I have to agree with the sentiment of some of this. If you are prepared to ride a bike without worrying about crashing why won't you wear a decent watch in case you crash?????

That somehow suggests that your watch is more important than your life, and that is one seriously screwed up set of priorities.

In terms of the vibration - well, to each their own but Breitling have been making shock resistant timepieces for a very long time, including ones for military aircraft - which I think are subject to rather more in the way of vibration and stress.

When riding I can fully concentrate on riding and enjoying the experiance, my priority
is self presavation. 35 years without an accident isn't bad.
