Hello all, great forum! I know Breitling makes great watches, as I owned a SO, that I regrettably sold. I am a notorious flipper of watches, but I am looking to stop. My question --Do you alll find that owning a Breitling, the price to buy and service prices included, is a better experience than buying more less expensive watches? (eg: Oris, Tag, Tutima, etc...). Though it would be a slight financial reach, if you were me would you buy a Colt II or Super O and call it a day?

Oh you're bound to get a sane answer here

Would I buy a Colt II or SuperOcean - yes. Would I call it a day - no. I'd then buy the one I didn't buy first, and then another - you get the idea.

If you only want a watch to tell the time go to WalMart and spend $10. If you want a functional piece of art that makes you feel good every time you look at it - get a Breitling. If that's what you really want then anything else is going to seem like just as big a compromise as the $10 watch.

If you think it's small or not is completely personal preference. On the forum you'll find members with all combinations of wrist/watch size, so there's actually only one thing to do - try them all out at your AD. Good luck!

I didn't realize that Oris, Tag and Tutima were that much less than Breitlings. If I could have only one watch, it definitely would be a Breitling. At the moment, I have a Steelfish, AS Blacksteel, and new Seawolf 2009. I would keep the Steelfish for sure, if I could keep only one. And that is probably what will happen. You can't go wrong with a Colt or SuperOcean. The Colt was my first Breitling, a quartz, from 1992 - 1997. Then I actually got more than I paid for it, at my AD, and traded up to a SuperOcean, which I had for over 10 years, hardly ever left my wrist. My Seawolf is now definitely the replacement for the SuperOcean, with the Arabic numerals, stencilled, and the great markers at 12, 6 and 9 o'clock. It is a very simple dial, and does remind me a lot of my SuperOcean, only bigger and more updated.
I really am partial to the Colt II Quartz, for the brushed/polished look like the Seawolf, the simple dial, the fact it is dead accurate with a battery life of almost 8 years. Breitling is one of the few watchmakers who's quartz watches are all COSC Certified as well.
Saw a SuperOcean at my AD the other day, black dial, also looks great. Can't go wrong with either SuperOcean or Colt.
Shame on me, but I did not have a major servicing done on my SuperOcean until just over 9 years. You should have one done every 5 years, at a cost of just over $500. Well worth it, as it's a major overhaul and cleaned up and polished to look like new.
Yes, get the Breitling, but I doubt if this one will be the end of it!
Cheers,
Carl

It shouldn't be all about the brand - or the price. The only watch I've bought is the one that, once i've seen it, I can't help keep looking at it. I've only ever bought 3 in my life (two Breitlings and an Oris)- and I've never sold one.
