Out the door is used more when car shopping etc. You agree to pay $30,000 for a car but buy the time you pay tax, tag title etc you wind up paying more like $32700 for example. But if during your negotiations you tell them you will only pay $31,000 out the door, that is your total cost you will pay so they will 'adjust' the vehicle price to accommodate that. Same thing with watches or other luxury goods.
