Hi, I just acquired my first B (I think, hopefully is not fake) Colt GMT, (needed to start low).

As a matter of fact, I would like to ask your opinion on this B-ling I got through Ebay (authentic?). It came with box, intl warranty card (perforated with AD name in the US), book and registration card. Both cards correspond with the watch serial number. Although they said it was bought a few months ago, it was made the 5th week of 2005 (determined by the tips posted in this site). I believe it has a Fighter bracelet although the ad said it was a Professional II.

It looks OK to me, but I am certainly no expert, and it is a Pro II bracelet - diagonal cut on the links on a Pro II, straight cut on a Fighters.

Have a look at the side of the bezel at the 57 minute mark. If there is a Breitling B there then I would almost certainly guarantee that it is genuine - I've never seen a fake with that B.

I believe that is a fighter bracelet. I just looked at this same watch at an AD a few weeks ago and the professional II bracelet that they sell with this watch now is all polished and the links are much tighter together. But, I am no expert so maybe someone who has a pro II bracelet can help clarify that.

I'm afraid to tell you that the B is indeed there on the fakes as are the numbers engraved between the case lugs. The good news is that this model has not been faked so you can rest easy my friend!!

Yep.. fake Lings do have the B on the bezel. And yes, that is a Fighter bracelet, not a Pro II.

The Fighter Bracelet has slashcut links just like the Pro II, but it looks different.

I stand corrected and educated (again!)

I am a little bit confused, having the B on the side of the bezel means fake? If not, what is the consensus. Do I need to return it (I am on time)?

No AFMAN - the B is OK.

I was under the impression that there were no fakes that had the B, hence my advice.

Turns out that I am mistaken and there are fakes with the B.

There should be a B on a genuine watch, it just isn't definitive proof that it's genuine as some of the fakes also have a B.

Does that make sense now?

One thing i have noticed on fakes is that the B doesn't look quite like the real ones. The B on the fakes looks like its stamped or something.. with the edges of the metal curved in a bit.. while the real one is finer and looks like its carved in almost.

I believe that the real ones are laser etched, where as the fakes are probably stamped, so that makes sense. The contact from stamping will inevitably have some affect on the material around it.

All of the pics I have seen of Breitling colt models show a font with the 1 having a little tag dropping down to the left at the top. See the Breitling web site for reference. This same font is showing on my chronomat. These 1's are just straight lines. Is this perhaps an older model? If not, I think it is fake.

edit: I take it back, I didn't see that this was an automatic, not quartz. Live and learn.

This is one of those models that does not have the serif on the 1. As I said before this Ling has not been faked so rest assured it is genuine.

Thank you all very much. The GMT looks great (my wife likes the blue dial), and I like the GMT function (I travel a lot, so a welcomed feature--the reason I decided for this instead of the Colt II). I will give it a try, test how does it feel in my wrist; maybe the first of a series. Once again, thanks for the info. Any advice on maintenance and reduce tear and wear?
