Hello everyone I wouild like to talk about the new Chrono-matic 49. I went to my AD today for a watch fair and the Breitling Rep was on site. After looking at a couple other brands, I migrated to the Breitling case. She had a new Chrono-matic 49 silver dial on Blk leather with her. I have to tell you looking at the Breitling web site I never would have thought that this watch looked the way it did in person. It is very low profile so the 49mm size does not "wear Big" like some of the larger Breitlings. It is very finley detailed and the dial was easy to read. I have a little problem seeing the Nav timers. I have an 8" wrist and wear large watches, usually 42mm or larger, my Evo is starting to look a little small though. I was suprised when she told me how big it was. I did purchase the watch, not the demo, I needed a long strap and I perfer fresh out of the box. She said it would take about 3 weeks to get it to me. I have a few other Breitlings but I was really impressed with the detail of this watch. Has anyone else seen one? I will post photos as soon as it hits town.

Sounds like a hell of a watch. It would probably sit nicely
on my 9.5" wrist. Can't wait to see the pix. I might have to put
dreams of IWC Classic Pilot's Chrono on indefinite hold.

I think you're the first on here to pick one up. I have worn one, and it wasn't for me. I can't get past Breitling turning their back on history with the crown, and the rubber bezel didn't quite work for my taste, but it's certainly an impressive piece.

Looking forward to the pictures.

I've now tried on all three colour variations of the CM49, and while I really didn't like the bronze, the white dial version looked great. The black has also grown on me when I managed to find one to try.

I'm with Roff on the slight "issues" with it though - the right-hand crown when the Chronomatic has historically ALWAYS had a left-hand crown, and the rubber bezel takes a bit of getting used to.

In the right dial/strap combination, then I think it's a nice watch.

Thanks for the information on this watch. I am not as versed in Breitling as,expecially you guys, so it is new to me. After looking at the website and a few other places it is clear that this 08 version is a little different. The real selling piont for me was that it was a little different from the typcal "Avenger profile" I love that look but wanted to go for something a little diffrent. I looked at the Bentleys and they are very nice watches, but a little to dressy? I also concidered the Emergency series, just a tad to small. I am excited to recieve the watch. I ordered the silver dial on black leather. I will post pictures as soon as it arrives. I enjoy reading your posts nad have learned quite a bit from you all. I am a real Breitling brand fan and am trying to be more of a participant in this fourm. I look forward to your future posts, havew a great weekend.

Congratulations!

I've seen and felt the watch and even though I'm just sounding like a lame echo, I have to echo the opinions of Roffensian and Driver.

I think most Breitling models actually do grow in real life, the look and feel much better on your wrist than what you had expected from a photo. I'll look forward to see yours!

Congratulation. I am a fan of this watch. The last one I saw was a black dial on a mesh bracelet and I liked it. Can't wait to see pictures of yours.

Guys, I have been second guessing myself with this watch. I have purchased the watch, on order, but am having second thoughts about the color. I tried to find a black one to look at, in person, and haven't found one here in Phoenix. I have seen pictures and like the black on black. I really liked the white dial when I tried it on, but......I am liking the black on black leather. What do you think having seen the black dial? I did this with a bronze SOH, special ordered before they were out, and didn't follow my gut and ended up trading it for a black SOH that I now wear all the time. Is the black as finely finished as the white? I will be calling my AD tomorrow to talk about availiblity of a black. If they have one in their Denver store thay will send it down to Phx. I know this is the watch for me, but still a little unsure of the color choice. I could use some input. Thanks,

It's a tough choice, I think this watch is fantastic, very retro, I do love the white face though, there are so many black faced watches nowadays a white face stands out as a bit more unique I think!

To be honest after seeing all three colours, the only one I didn't like was the bronze. As ianmedium said, the white is very retro as it apes one of the 60's style chrono-matics that you somethings see on the "timeline" pages of the Chronolog. I think it looks great with the black subdials (even though I'd have prefered them to use a black date-while on that colour combo so that it blended in with the subdials a little better. :? )

On the other hand the black is probably the most conservative, but again as ianmedium said, there are a lot of black dial / white subdial watches around today. Not that that is a problem at all - but the white is definitely a set apart.

Of course you could always ask your AD to get both models in and then try them both next to one another. Most AD's won't mind doing that for their customers.

Of the two, I also prefer the white. Both colours have tradition behind them, but I do think that the white has a cleaner, more set apart look.

Thanks guys, your help has been invaluable. I fell in love with the silver dial when I first put it on. I am going with my first choice. I did up grade a little, I ordered the deployant and an XL Black calf instead of the tang. I should have it in three weeks. We'll see, photos as soon as it arrives.

Thanks Again,
Mark

Mark, that sounds stunning! I was just looking at your watch again and think the choice you have made is perfect! I have a silver dial Cockpit and the Breitling silver is magical, mine looks silver in some light and creamy white in others. Yours with the black sub dials will look stunning I think, great choice, I can't wait to see photo's!

Congratulations!

I think you did a nice job with the deployant - the feel (and life length of the strap) is super!
