I recently decided that I will try and sell my Skyland Blacksteel.
There is a very small ding on the edge of the bezel at the "38" mark. It is only a pinpoint ding, but it has gone right through the coating to the metal. It is only visible in the right light, and at the right angle. I would not be concerned if I was keeping the watch, but for someone purchasing, it could be a deciding factor.
I got a quote from my AD on replacing the bezel, because it cannot obviously be "polished" out. The cost is appx $600.00cad.
My question is: I thought originally to ask appx $4000 -4200cad for the watch. However, I would be willing to subtract the $600 from the asking price, to ask about $3500. Would I be better off to replace the bezel first, or ask the lower price and let the buyer decide? Original price was $4685, is my price reasonable?
There are also 3 small dings on the edge of the watch body, which are not through the coating to the metal. Again, barely visible, but of course people have a right to be fussy.
I am hopeless at taking photos, but I can borrow a camera and try to get a decent photo, but I'm not sure that the dings would even show up.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think if you sold your Blacksteel at $3500, it would sell pretty quick. I'd almost price it higher and see what kind of interest you can get and then maybe negotiate it down to what you really want for the watch. I wouldn't invest $600 for a new bezel if you're just going to sell it. Put that money towards your next purchase, possibly that Blackbird you've been thinking about purchasing.

I have a new SABS and this is one of the reasons I don't like to even wear it. You can't buff it out at all. Any normal B is serviceable and normal light wear and tear can be cleaned up. The Blacksteel series watches are virtually unserviceable in terms of case aesthetics.

I agree with Justin on this. If the mark is literally a pin-prick then I wouldn't worry - just sell it as is and put the cash towards your next (and non-surface-coated) piece!

Gneral rule of thumb is that you never get your money back on repairs / servicing, so it's likely not worth it. The implication is that speding $600 doesn't add $600 to the value, so you shouldn't assume that not spending it makes it $600 cheaper.

I'm not a great judge of value of these pieces as I paid a low price new, but there are still quite a few doing the rounds on the secondary market to help you with value.

As long as you declare that it isn't perfect and show photos of how minor the ding is I don't think it's a big deal.

Ive avoided replying to this question for a couple of days because I couldnt figure out how to say what I was thinking. You said it exactly how I wanted to.

Thanks to all of you for your good and heartfelt advice. As I consider most of you at Breitlingsource.com to be like friends, I guess I can admit something that embarrasses me a little: I actually find the whole process of putting my watch up for sale very daunting. I can't explain why, I just know that some things come easy to certain people and yet difficult to others.
On that note, I am going to delay, or cancel my plan entirely, to sell the watch. Rather, I will likely either keep it and enjoy wearing it on occasion, make it a gift to my brother. Trouble is, he doesn't really appreciate the watch. He is quite happy with his Skagen, which is black, and already has the finish peeling off!
Again, thanks for all the advice. Things happen for a reason, and maybe I am just meant to hang on to this watch.

I accepted a long time ago that I don't have it in me to sell my watches. I have some that get very little wrist time, and even one or two that I regretted buying afterwards, but everything contributes to my collection, and tastes change over time.

If you can financially afford to keep the watch then I completely understand the desire to keep it - whether worn once a day or once a month it will still become an old friend.
