No I don't think they will, nor will any other luxury brand. High tech is too fleeting. Today's high tech is always gonna be a useless dinosaur four years from now.

Well as long as they stick to some useful functions (like flight recordings, etc) then you could say they already have. B55. Having the ability for others to find me if I am lost (E2) also qualifies as a very smart piece of kit.

Having an apple tap me on the wrist to remind me to move for a few minutes doesn't cut it IMO. That sort of function I can live without.

Smart tech IMO needs to be really useful and not duplicated elsewhere. Merging the B55 with the E2 is one direction they could go, but unlocking your hotel door from your watch could be done from your phone. Seems gimmicky. App development needs a driver inbuilt into the devise before it can be exploited.

So, useful or a gimmick?

I saw today that Tag Hauer is doing a smart watch with Intel and Google.

Yes bivers interview with Bloomberg was very interesting. Looks like a man with a lot on his mind but what he said probably correct.

How about they get back to making instruments for professionals, watches their customers love, and leave the smart watch segment to tech companies. 'Breitling' and 'smart' should never be mentioned in the same sentence unless the headline reads "Breitling was smart to fire their entire design staff"

Early days yet, but perhaps they are. We just don't appreciate it yet. Little wonder as its in its infancy. Depends on where they go next, what the development turns into and what features we see as useful enough to buy into. They don't spend millions on this sort of dip without a purpose in mind. Personally, I am ambivalent to the current iterations but who knows into the future. Could be the greatest thing since sliced bread or a dud. Just a thought.

To me, that post read in the same way that one about quartz technology might have, once.
