I'm the proud owner of a B1 Bomber with a grey face.

I have had it 9 years and have had it serviced (by Breitling) twice. I reckon it's in pretty good nick and I love the watch to bits.


I'm coming up for a big birthday (40th) and I always promised myself I'd have a Rolex Daytona by then. So I'm going to make the purchase but the quandary I am left with is do I sell my pride and joy?

If I keep it will it increase in value? Will I actually use it once I have a new watch? What is the pre-owned market like for the B1's?

any help or advice would be appreciated.

To be honest, if you don't need to sell the B1 to buy the Daytona, then the way you talk about the B1 (your "pride and joy" and that you "love the watch to bits"), then personally I think you'd be crazy to sell it. If once you've got the Daytona, and if your feelings for the B1 change, then that's the time to consider selling it IMO, but not before. All IMO of course.

If you keep the B1, then it's unlikely to increase per se, but it's likely to reach a level where it won't drop much more - probably around about now actually. And yes the pre-owned market for B1's is pretty good - a lot of people love them.

So which Daytona are you looking at? a Stainless Steel, two tone, gold, platinum? Understand that the Daytona wears SMALL. If your used to wearing a larger watch you might be disappointed with the Daytona.
I can most definitely think you should keep your B1. You will miss it.

good advice thank you. If the value of it will stay static now I may as well keep it, like you say, and wait to see how I feel once I have my Daytona. I just need to convince my wife now

I know, I already think I would miss it. It's more the fact my wife thinks having two watches is OTT.

Its the SS with a white face that I want. I've wanted one for the last 15 years so feel I've waited long enough now.

One reason why I would go for the Daytona is unfortunately I am blessed with very skinny wrists and although the B1 is now super large watch it still is a little too big for me. The Daytona is a much better fit and instead of just wearing the B1 for special occasions I can go back to wearing a watch (the Daytona) everyday.

LOL 2 watches...OTT..I have 6 that I wear in my rotation. I know a fella that has 50+ (and a small house)

I agree, Keep the B1 and add the Daytona. No man is a one watch being, it just is not in our make up.

The nostalgic value of the watches by far surpasses any residual value and watches are like cars, really bad investments.

I own an Aerospace right now...and the B1 looks like the next logical step up for me. Looks like a very practical watch. I'd hold onto the B1, you may find yourself in situations where you don't feel comfortable wearing the Daytona, and wishing you still had the B1!
