I know they put these backs on limited editions but can I buy one for a standard Chronomat 44?

My understanding is -no, unless you have some special connections.
Breitling will only exchange parts ( i.e. keep the original) as part of a service and from I understand they will not replace a standard part with a Limited Edition part.
Take dials for example, they will not replace a standard dial with a limited edition dial.
They will however happily replace a black dial with a blue one if both colours have been a standard configuration for that particular model.

I kinda figured I was up the creek on the watch back but thought I would ask...this statement is the one I didn't expect. I asked a dealer if I could swap the dial on my colt II chrono from black to blue and the said no way. Both are standard colors is my AD wrong?
Albeit 1k for the swap my not be worth it on this particular piece.

Why not have one made. There was a gentleman here not so long ago that made an expo backs for a Breitling. I think Rene had one made didn't he? It won't be genuine, but does it really matter when your model is not supposed to have one anyway?

It matters if you want Breitling to service it.

What would happen if he replaced the caseback and sent it in for service?

I'm sure if I wanted to have a temp exhibition back for regular day to day and installed the original when I want to send it in I could.. But it's not that big of an issue for me. I'll just live without it.

Breitling would insist on replacing with the correct caseback or refuse to service the watch.

As long as Breitling didn't notice any tool marks from swapping casebacks. Evidence that the movement had been compromised may well lead to bigger problems with Breitling.

But how would breitling know witch serial number is the right one for that watch? Ofc u can provide the papers with the serial stamped on it. But that wouldnt be any guarantee that it is the right papers for that watch. And they cant assume that it is a fake watch since the parts are real. I really wonder what would happen if he serviced it with the incorrect caseback.
