The Breitling Watch Source Forums

Good Evening,
Somehow during the past week my attention has been drawn to the Breitling Brand - and I know very little about the company. I just observed the 'Technology' movie on their website, leaned back in my chair and went 'Whoa'.

Out of the current models available, I am giving serious though to obtaining the Colt GMT. Many of the pilots in my squadron vouch for Breitling and I have a few questions if you guys / gals are up for helping a rookie out.

With specific reference to the Colt GMT - does anyone out there own one? If so, care to comment on the durability / wear-ability of the item? Secondly, are the watches hands luminous? I want to say that they are (or should be) by glancing at the familiar opaque finish on the hands.

Lastly, I have only browsed a few threads thus far but I keep seeing people mention particular satisfaction with the 'After Sales Care'. Can anyone elaborate? How willing is Breitling to accept a watch under their warranty program?

The Colt GMT is a fine watch, my only complaint is that it is a bit small.. the smallest Breitling in fact. But its not really too small to wear if you like that size.

Watch hands are luminous... as for after watch care, I've never had to return a watch under warranty before, but my AD has always been helpful.

I'm a big fan of the Aeromarine series. Can't go wrong with the Colt GMT, great watch to start with, affordable too. I have not had any warranty issues yet with my Breitling but have taken it into my AD a couple times for a free buff & polish. Hopefully someone can answer your questions specific to the Colt but my AS has been a great watch. Good luck with your first Ling purchase!

Colt GMT is a great watch Jason, but the Steelfish is probably the brightest in low light. Many of the pilots love the Airwolf, Aerospace, Emergency, and the Navitimer family. Where in Florida are you stationed?

I like my Colt GMT. The hands are luminous. It's a great watch, even though it's small for Breitling, it still is a decent size in my opinion. I also really like the polished finish. Overall I'm very pleased with it.

If you are looking for luminosity, I think the Steelfish might be the better choice over the GMT, unless you want the dual time zone function as a priority. The difference in price is only about $50.00. The Steelfish is also slightly bigger, with the dial being 44mm and the bracelet 22mm instead of the 20mm on GMT. I was looking at the GMT as well, when I bought my Steelfish, it was a bit small for me that's all.
The Steelfish has some great round markers, and wide hands which give it great luminosity.

Thank you very much for the prompt and helpful replies - that's something I appreciate. I am currently stationed with MacDill AFB - near Tampa, FL.

Good intel on the luminosity of the hands as well - I would say that having the GMT time is the highest priority because I use that function often when coordinating various taskings and operations both on the ground and in the cockpit. I saw mention of the Steelfish and Airwolf a few times - I'll be sure to check them out and see what they have to offer.

Again, thank you very much for the fast replies and insight - you've made a strong impression and I look forward to researching the Breitling 'family' alot more in the coming days.

Take a visit to your nearest dealer and have a look in person.

Every Breitling, with the possible exception of the Navitimer, is very durable and rugged. The level of quality and workmanship is equally high from the cheapest to the most expensive model.

The hands on the GMT are most certainly luminous.

I also have never had any experience with after sales, but everything ive heard from people with first hand experience is that it is phenomenal. You can rest assured that if there are any problems with your watch, breitling will get them sorted out for you.

My wife let me buy a Colt GMT auto at Christmas time 2007. It is a nice watch and I thought it was what I wanted. Well, untill I saw a Steelfish! The Steelfish is much larger and is more eye-catching than the Colt. More inportatnly, it's doesn't cost much more! I traded my Colt for a Steelfish in April and couldn't be happier! The lume on the Steelfish is incredible and IMHO better than that of the Colt. Look at the Steelfish closely before you buy the Colt.
