I'll fess up. I paid the crazy sum of 700.00 for the second one. Hers my rationale. Isn't that what we all do with watches, is rationalize why it all makes perfect sense. I'm new to you guys and Breitling. I think I joined about 18 months ago. I bought a 6.75 from Govberg and have a SOHC 125th on the way. I love coming to this forum and looking at the amazing pictures and learning all that everyone has to offer about the inner workings of the watch. Once I law the first picture of a red ocean racer on a white dialed Super Avenger I've wanted one. Ive searched and searched and I've neve seen one came up. When I saw the post yesterday I was so upset because I look almost every day on eBay for a red OR. They never come up. So I emailed the guy to see if by chance he had another one. He said he did but would take nothing less then 700.00. I put in a offer at 575.00- but it was countered. I just thought for a 125.00 more I will finally have one. Here's the crazy part. I don't even have a watch that will fit that strap yet, but I now get the enjoyment of starting to look. So at the end of the day if I can find a nice used watch that would fit a 22/20 OR I will have a great looking watch. It may have costed a few hundered extra bucks, but that's ok-I will really enjoy it.

Thanks for all the Great reading time. Let the fun begin with my hunt.

Ryan

Wow! Excuse me while I go buy a can of red spray paint and plan my next several watch purchases...

If you want the source of the redness, I'll sell you the spray can, the can is $25,000.

Correct, just the rubber pieces which otherwise sell for about $75.

I must confess, though, I can relate to the second buyer's admittedly crazy logic. "Ok, got the strap. Just need to find a watch now." Absolutely fantastically classic!!!!

Don't get me wrong - I can't fathom that strap, period, but I'm digging the second buyer. He definitely belongs in our looney bin. CLASSIC!

Reminds me of parents who buy their kids a car before they are old enough to drive by a couple years. By the time they drive, that "great deal" of a car is now worth less than it was before (ranting over a coworker who bought their 14 year old a car that they can't drive for two more years).

 Fair play to that rationale! I like it, and in a roundabout way, most of us have been in a similar situation at some point with this crazy hobby. A number of years ago, a really expensive watch to me was £1000. If you'd asked me back then if I'd ever buy a watch worth £10K I would've laughed. But slowly and surely the price we are prepared to pay for things creeps up and up.

Good luck with the hunt for a watch to go with it.

:yeahthat :superbow:

He gets it :cheer:

I bought a Python strap then spent a month hunting for a watch to put it on before settling on the two tone Navi. Not sure if that makes me obsessed or just stoopid! But I enjoyed every minute of the hunt

But if you don't have a rubber when you need one it can cost you a lot more than $700.

from the point of a red or strap owner (24/20) on my sa, i have to say mine sits in the drawer its certainly one of those "you want something you cant have", i looked everywhere for 1 for years and one popped up on ebay for £15, so i offered £25 as a buy it now which was gladly accepted ;)))))))))) i have found a spray paint that is flexible so im going to have a go at spraying an old seawolf pro1 to see how it goes, i think breitling should release a bit more of a range in colour, imo there a bit stiff (old fashioned) at the min but hey i have diamonds on my sa, yes i can hear heaving and gipping from all you haters lol!!!!!!

but 750 for the rubber only seems even more :poke: :poke:

How big is their drive way? I bought my own car a year before I could drive and drove it up and down the underground which was 5 levels, then around in front of my building, and washed it outside every week until my 16th birthday, which I spent getting my license first thing when they opened.
