Hey all,

I'm looking into purchasing a breitling watch, so I went to an AD in my area. When I got there, I saw that they had a pre-owned breitling navitimer that they are selling at a very reasonable price. The catch is, they don't have the box, or the papers.

On one hand, it's a authorized Breitling dealer, what they sell should be genuine. On the other hand, the price is so good, I am wondering if they are trying to pull a fast one.

What should I do ? How can I verify the authenticity to make my decision a lot easier ?

thanks

An AD is not going to jeopardize their entire business by trying to sell a fake watch. If you want to be sure post photos in hte replica section here and the experts will soon let you know.

the price must be very good....Breitling whitout documents always is a red flag to me (stolen, fake, etc.) check if there is a serial, the navitimer fake usually has a sunken date wheel, but better check if the dial is perfect.

the experts should respond shortly

I completely agree with Roff. I am not an expert but the only concern that I have (IMO) is the history of the watch and course when you decide to sell the watch in the future without papers. Another thing that I would put into consideration is if the AD would provide at least a 1 year warranty on the watch.

thank you all for your input. i'll definitely post pictures the replica fake forum if I decide to actually purchase it. It's a beige dial, which makes it quite unique I believe, anybody know what year it could be ?

Unless you are Tourneau in which case you take in the B&Ps and get rid of them (maybe that's where all those eBay box/papers sets come from - j/k Tourneau j/k. But then...)

Seriously, to the OP- no way a Breitling AD would knowingly sell a fake Breitling. Also, do they provide a warranty on their pre-owned pieces? Many do.

Agreed that an AD would never risk losing their franchise by knowingly selling a fake, and I would assume they would definitely get the serial at least checked with Breitling.

HOWEVER, just one slight note of caution - as a number of us have found, quite a few AD's seem to employ people who actually know very little about the watches they sell. It's therefore not completely inconceivable that an AD could take in a very good fake watch, believe it to be genuine, not bother (or get round to) checking with Breitling, and just stick it in the window for sale......

Yes this is very unlikely, but not totally beyond the realm of possibility. Therefore as others have said, stick up some pictures and the experts here will be able to tell you more or less instantly.

so i called the AD for the breitling, and they told me a little bit more information regarding the watch. It's a Navitimer Montbrillant, and it's a 1990 edition, which completely fooled me, because the watch looks IMMACULATE ! They won't budge on the price, and the salesperson called Breitling to confirm it's the real deal.

I'll try to go the the AD this weekend, and they allow me to take pictures of the watch i'll post them here so that you can tell me what you think about it.

thank you everyone for your help and opinion.

Why wouldn't an AD be able to get some kind of certification or proof of authenticity? Watch too old I guess?

Question for the pros here, when a AD takes in used watch, do they verify the serial number with Breitling to see if it is stolen or real before they can sell it??? Especially on a piece with no box or papers? Or do they crack it open to look and verify?

Depends on the AD.

Many ADs now have access to verify the watch online so it's easier than it used to be, but a good AD should ensure that the watch is ready for sale anyway - basic service at least, especially if they are going to warranty it, so that would also identify a fake.
