I agree that the moderators on this forum show a dedication beyond any others I have come across.

Great work fellas.

Ha, until the "get your face out" thread, I always just figured Roff looked like an old wizard type with a long white beard, due to his knowledge of watches.

I have sort of been curious about something similar...

Did our Mods have a vast array of Breitling knowledge and put that to use here, or was alot of the knowledge as a result of being a Mod here?

Im sure it is a bit of a mix, but just curious

If you read old posts, you can see a humble D8 and Roff asking/discussing common questions just like the rest of us back in the day. Pretty sure it was a combination of a passion for Breitling and the community as whole that has led to their vast knowledge of all things Breitling.

Just my take on it but we can let the Mod Gods speak for themselves

Well I can't speak for Roff, but I've been into watches (and specifically Breitlings) for around 12 to 15 years or so, and when I get into something I tend to really get into it, so I think I had a bit of knowledge about watches and modern-era Breitlings in particular when I first joined up here, but my knowledge has grown a lot just by being here for almost 4 years.

I certainly would never presume to know everything about watches - not by a long way - I just try to assist people where I feel I can, and I enjoy this place as much as anyone. Everyday's a school day, and I've picked up a load more info just by being part of this great community. No-one is too old to learn something new, and the moment you start thinking you are, something will inevitably pull you down a peg or two!

Roff has gone a step further by now getting into watch-making as a hobby, which brings a whole lot of additional practical knowledge to the table. My practical "watchmaking" starts with polishing and ends with strap-changing!

And while this thread was mainly for Roff's benefit, I seem to have snuck under the radar in a couple of posts  , so I will simply say thanks for the vote of confidence guys - I appreciate it.

I don't like commenting on threads like this other than to say thank you for the kind comments, although Driver8 contributes just as much as I do, he is just less verbose about it!

As the question was asked, I will admit to a little bit of witholding the full extent of my knowledge of watches when I first joined - it was a much, much smaller forum and I wanted to understand exactly what the lay of the land was. That said, there were a lot of things that I didn't know and I wasn't as familiar with Breitling as a brand as I am now. Additionally, as Driver8 noted, over the past few years my knowledge of watches has gone somewhat beyond the academic as I have started the long, slow process of learning watchmaking (or more accurately restoration / repair). That's still very limited due to time constraints - it's easy to stop by here when you are working on a laptop anyway, far less easy to find the several hours needed to lock myself away at the bench.

My knowledge has grown tremendously due to the members here, and continues to grow. I am blessed (cursed?) with a fairly good memory as well so things do tend to stick - much to the chagrin of some sellers who try to sneak duplicate listings past me after a few weeks

Having been here all along...watching the progression of Roff and D8's knowledge or the sharing of their knowledge, I can easliy say that these fellas are top notch and ADMIN did the right thing selecting them as mods. I am a member of several other, non watch, forums and some other watch ones and the atmosphere is far more relaxed and enjoyable here.
