Correct.
B779 is older style black dial, newer style black is marked B912.
This things are written in Dealer's Handbooks, not Chronologs.

Thank you. Whichever one they're written in, I wish I had them. But this should be enough to go by if I want to track one down. I'm still deciding what my next watch is going to be, but in my opinion the early Cockpit represents an "endangered" element in Breitling design that I may wish to get while I still can, before it goes extinct.

In yet another forehead smacking moment, I came across this in the Models section of our own, illustrious Breitlingsource.com: "In 2008-2009, the Cockpit receives a Dial change. Gone are the concentric circles in favour of a pillow shaped design." So that pretty much answers that. Evidently Jomashop is posting the same picture for both designs, which might result in an unpleasant surprise for a few purchasers.

On a side note, Breitling sure didn't have much patience with the Cockpit, did they? Two years for the original design, two years for the redesign, and then boom - gone/Galactified.

I've only just discovered this thread after spending the last year or so wondering why it's so hard to find a cockpit. The AD in Melbourne didn't even stock them 12 months ago saying most people who go for breitling go for something bigger. I don't think he was particularly well informed.

What is Breitling thinking with the horrendous dial on the Galactic. And the name Galactic? Please. Perhaps years from now we'll see their foresight but right now the new models don't appear to have the timeless characteristics of their predecessors. What a shame.
