HI guys, this is my first visit and post on the Breitling Source. I dont want to sound like a smart arse but isnt the Breitling Blackbird a celebration of the fantastic Blackbird spy plane now de commisioned ? Surely it should be Black brushed easily readible and stealthy. It should not glitter it should be completely brushed with brushed faceted pilot bracelet. The sides of the watch case are polished and the edge of the bracelet is plenty polish for the Black beauty. Please dont get me wrong i think people should get what they like. But a Blackbird with a blue face, there is definately a departure from logic there ! A lovely double date window at 12 with a second hand chrono cutting along the middle of the two windows classic and so practical.
I have a Blackbird purchased in 2007 from a chain of jewellers here in the U.K called beaverbrooks. It has a brushed back case with a raised polished word," BLACKBIRD" of course with Breitling at the other part of the circular arc. It has its serial number. It is not stamped heavily with the wording in relief it says Blackbird and it is raised and polished. I dont understand why people buy the Chronomat," Blackbirds" surely that is a Chronomat Evolution with a Black dial and nice double split date window. Am i right in thinking that some Chronomat"Blackbirds" dont have the large split date at 12 oclock ?
Why is this beauty messed about with, it reminds us of understated technology that no one needs to know except people who need to know, like the wearer or in the plane the pilot, not even a co pilot ! So dont tell the other half what you have. Anyone who knows and wants to talk will see it because the need to know people know what you have.
My Dad was given this particular watch when he retired from NEI Parsons, an engineering company here in the North East of England in the U.K. The sad thing is he wore it for a couple of hours when he got it, he then went home had his tea then went out to a small party then when he came in he took it off, put on the bezel protector and it was pushed to the back of his wardrobe under some folded jeans and trousers he hardly wore for 3 years and 8 months. He died a couple of months ago and my Brother and myself found it when we were clearing his possessions to put the property up for rent or for sale.
The really really sad thing is my Dad was an unassuming type of bloke and the watch was so much like his personality ready to work to precise tolerances but would not brag, he was understated just like the Blackbird...
I believe they now sell new in the same jewellers for well over £5,000 someone recently told me this particular jewellers sell it at top price of £5,600. And they fight very hard not to give discouint, definately not 30% is that the American norm > I think jewellers will give up to 15% here. Am i wrong ? I wear a 2010 Super Avenger and i love its size weight and polished surfaces and the highly polished Pro 2 is lovely.
If anybody knows someone who wants a lovely new Blackbird for a fair figure devisible by three give me a nudge, lol. I really am not here to push a watch, lol. I love the brand and like to keep up to date on my Super. I had a 2009 Black dial with the silver subdials Pro two. I want a new one when they bring out a nice new design for the super. I had Arabic numerals on the 2009 and my newest just has the double sticks.
Some body commented that Breitling were, lets say, economical with the lume. I think it is just enough i love it. I love the style and i would love some type of Exhibition back but i am not too keen on the new movement i need to see it proven in the public arena first. And these new exhibition back ones are very very high priced especially the gold choice.
I also do not like a polished bezel it is of course completely down to taste. Why have Breitling started mimicking Rolex models like the Submariner and the deep sea. Lose the nasty plastics please, an inhouse movement has to be a forward step so why step back and mimick another brand, we dont need no mimickery !
I suppose change does not go down easily with me, i think the superoceans heritage and the Chronograph superoceans are awful. I like to see cold hard steel. The watches look like jewellery and though most of us never see the movements it is nice to know it looks nice with its golden lettering on the Rotor. Beautiful ! Well i hope i have not offended or droned on about what I want and I like but how else can i introduce myself to you all. Hope we all get a really spot on adjusted movement that keeps time to + or _ 1 second per decade.. Another quick thing Quartz or "SuperQuartz" they dont keep good time in my experience i have had to send a Colt 2 Chronograph back because it was gaining then losing 5 seconds per day, No it was not the battery and the thermal compensator was fine, maybe i am not a battery man, sometimes your body can stop a watch working with its own natural charge.
Thanks guys, nice to say HI. Bye for now, David.
