My gift to myself probably won't be a Breitling, but I am picking up another watch. I still have no idea what it'll be though which is driving me crazy.

Recently realized it's approaching the bonus time at work. I've been working my arse off and have had a good year. I've set money aside for a flieger-style watch but am contemplating waiting a bit more to go a bit further.... Regardless, I plan on getting another as a gift to myself in the not-to-distant future.

Used or not, that is a grand gesture. I would love to be able to get some friends and family into watches by gifting a piece.

Most folks who are not interested in a watch probably have never worn a real watch, and I think that the same folks who think I am nut would be just as quick to fall for the hobby after the first one being given to them.

Does your choice to give Breitlings to some and Movados to others represent your opinion of the individuals, or their opinions of the brands?

JacksonStone - actually nothing against the individuals in the least. I have rubbed off on my kids a tad and they both appreciate nice watches. My sister appreciates nice things, but not into the higher end watches, but my brother in law appreciates the higher end watches. My daughter in law, I've not even had the chance to meet in the flesh yet so not sure if she would be into the Lings....figured the Movado safer for her as well. :santa:

:santa: Movado comes across to me as more of an upscale designer watch of quality. They aren't cheap throw downs and they have some class to them, albeit they are quartz movements. So I think the 2 ladies will be happy with them...or I hope they will anyhow. :santa:

:santa: The joy of it all is in the giving and not expecting anything back, I only wish I could be there when they opened their presents to see their faces light up. :santa:

Patience is as they say a virtue, its almost that time again, and last year at that time i was ready to go and negotiate my 50 year ambition..........on the last day of 2009 i finally collected my long yearned after Breitling..........brand new from a reputable jeweller....
The model and colour was exact what i had yearned for (same colour as my show car)..........so now almost a full year on im still as excited as the same time last year........the Ling has only been back to BGB once on warranty, with no BGB problems........i have no ambition to buy another model or make.....so this Ling of mine is my Christmas present for all time.......saves money, saves searching around, and it always looks the bees knees................... :lingsrock:

Well, as I'm taking my Wife and Son to New York for a combined Birthday (Son's 23rd)/Christmas/New Year I guess a big present for me is out of the window this year!

Just as well I'll be (hopefully) getting my Navitimer Caliber 01 this month then!

Stef

As we´re on the subject...

Here is a hilarious Finnish shortfilm about why you should never be naughty during Christmas time. After watching this, you´ll never look at Santa the same way again. So let´s all follow the OP:s example this Christmas and let´s be very very nice.

It´s in English but When the hunters are shortly speaking Finnish, they are saying that "they got disciplined just as they deserved"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z4OvK3V ... re=related

It´s very entertaining, but if it´s too rough then moderators please remove the link.

:santa: Well I hope I've been nice, because I put sat in Santa's at the mall and whispered in his ear that I would love to get a nice 2 rotor watch winder from Wolf Designs. I sure hope he was listening and gets the elves busy constructing it....would be nice to find this under the tree at Christmas instead a sack full of coal. :santa:
