the cockpit i want is discontinued. i was originally looking for a second hand piece to cut back on the $$$ as i'm not too fused about buying from an AD.
but after 6 months of searching i have not found a single one.
i have the chance to get a brand new piece from an AD but am hesitant due to the extra cost. i am tempted to wait it out and find a second hand piece but I am starting to think one may never come around, and with it being discontinued the chances of getting on new if i don't find one are getting slimmer.

i know its completely subjective... but what would you guys do? wait it out, or splash the extra cash?

I can tell you from personal experience that I havent seen a cockpit for sale for a long time (maybe never? ). If you really want it, buy a new one if you cant find anything else. The extra money wont mean much after youve got the piece youve been lusting after.

My impression is that Cockpit is not a popular model at all. IMHO it's simply overpriced: the whole Colt range is much cheaper, SuperOcean and Steelfish are cheaper, even the Aerospace, the Airwolf and the Chrono SuperOcean are cheaper. For not much more $$ you can get a Chronomat or a Navitimer -- which both are more iconic and IMHO better looking watches, not to mention they're both chronos.

But, it's all a matter of taste and personal preferences. If you think the Cockpit is the one you need, then I suggest you go to an AD, haggle strong, and get the Cockpit brand new. I'd expect at least 20-25% discounts (or 30% if it's on a bracelet), considering it's not a popular item. If the AD is reluctant to give you that discount, then try to find another AD and push your luck there. Make sure to bring cash, it is very useful to squeeze the AD for more discounts.

Good luck, and post some wrist shots if you get a Cockpit -- or any other Breitling for that matter :lingsrock:

I agree...if you really want the piece, get it while you can and wear it often and enjoy! Good Luck!

I can't agree with Fiery, I think the Cockpit is an amazing looking watch. It is one of the most flesxible pieces in Breitling's collection, looking great with casual or formal wear.

I do prefer the older design, but that's subjective. What price can you put on another 6, 9, 12, + months without the watch you like??? If you want it, buy it.

I can't agree either. The flexibility of the peice is it's strongsuit. The Navitimer, although iconic, just can't be worn in as many places as the Cockpit. (not to mention the water resistence difference)

As for the styling change, I think it might have been Breitling's attempt to distinguish the Cockpit a bit more from the Colts. It's taken on a much more "refined" appearence. There is no accounting for taste and I liked the new style it so much that I got one  .

I think, in general, the older style is more popular so it might be best to not leave it up to chance and bite the bullet at the AD before they're all gone!

The cockpit cannot even be compared to the aeromarine series, you pay for the refinement and finish of the windrider series and this shows in how elegant this piece is compared to the much more sporty and 'in your face aeromarine models'
i think you may have a point about the chronomat but not so the navitimer. the chonomat is something i have been toying with also, and have found it hard to decide between that and the cockpit

TD: There is an AD here in Atlanta that has one old style Cockpit new but unsold, It is Silver dial (with only one Roman Numeral at 12 position) ,silver with gold rider tabs at the 4 compass points on the bezel. It is discounted appropriately for be a discontinued model. PM me if you want the AD name.
