Recently I've acquired a new Ling and so my SA has been getting little wrist time. I've been keeping the watches side by side but on my SA, I've kept the crown unscrewed and every morning, when I put the new watch on, I just give the SA a few winds in order to keep it going. Does anyone see any problem with a) keeping the crown unscrewed and b) giving it a few turns every morning? Thanks in advance!

I can't see anything wrong with it and I hope there isn't a problem doing it because I do almost the same thing. I keep my watches with the screw down crowns unscrewed to avoid excessive wear and simply wind them once a day. I however will generally give them a good 40 winds just in case I forget the next day or i'm unavailable for the daily wind.

If the watches are just sitting then there is no problem with leaving the crown unscrewed - just remember to screw it in before wearing. In terms of winding - you can't overwind an automatic so no worries.
