Hey guys, thinking about purchasing a Colt, and had two quick questions:

If you have a watch without original stamped warranty papers, does it affect the pricing and service you get when you send it in for a checkup/tuning?

If a non-Breitling watch-person opens it, does that affect the warranty/servicing through Breitling in any way?

Thanks for your help!

If you send in a watch that has been serviced by a non-Breitling certified service center, Breitling will insist on a full service and won't honor your warranty.

If you don't have the original papers, there is no guarantee that the watch is under warranty.

Yeah, no warranty without papers, and no service without a serial number on the back. If the serial is there then they'll do regular servicing for the same cost.

If there is evidence of non Breitling work / inspection / etc then costs can get high.

What are some signs to look for that your watch is in need of a routine service? and if there are no signs of anything wrong is it necessary to be serviced every 5 years?

The usual giveaway is that it can't keep time within COSC specs. Sometimes you may get issues with it stopping intermittently as well if the oil has moved from friction points or broken down. The power reserve will also be reduced but that's not so noticeable if the watch is a daily wearer or on a watchwinder.

If the watch doesn't show any of those symptoms then no need to get it serviced after 5 years. In the real world 5 - 7 years is the usual window. Much past that and even if it's keeping time the oils will have broken down through age.
