I'm looking to trade in my Breitling Aerospace for something a little different. I received it as a Bar Mitzvah gift and being the young, irresponsible, and extremely fortunate teenager I was, I managed to lose the papers. From what I understand Breitlings are notorious for being faked. Am I screwed? Can I still sell this or trade it in without papers?

Thanks

Ok, thanks, I'll try to go that route. Here are some photos:

Not the best quality but hopefully good enough.

Can't see the photos 'cos I'm at work - however the Aerospace is one of the Breitling range which is targeted less by the fakers and when it is reproduced it is always easy to spot.

So - and when I see the photos it will be easy to tell - you will have less problem selling it (if genuine) without papers than you would most other models. Have a look at this thread for more info:

http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3287

That said - the advice given is solid and a visit to any AD would verify it as genuine and probably supply a written statement to that effect - maybe for a nominal charge. Beware of ADs who may say it's fake and offer to dump it for you. Don't part with it without being 100% sure.

I'll look at the pics later too.

If the buyer knows what he's buying, he will know that your Aerospace is REAL. Although absence of papers will decrease its value.

No doubt whatsoever that it's real.

Okay, thanks everyone! I might stop by an AD and try to get some papers. What do you think I'm looking at on ebay? I was thinking about starting it at 800 but I really have no idea what the resale of this watch will fetch.

Thanks

Yup - as the guys say :real: OK. Looks like it could do with a bit of a clean up before putting on eBay. A gentle scotchbrite pad to restore the bracelet would help. Try it on the inside 1st and in the direction of the grain.

As bnewbie says - any genuine buyer will know it's real but lack of warranty booklet & COSC cert will drop the resale value a bit as it's not complete.

Manuals come up on eBay from time to time - £20 ish.e. the other things to make it more complete are a hang tag, document holder, distributors list, bezel guard.

Not sure how helpful Breitling would be about replacing paperwork etc but a phone call won't hurt - they're very helpful with genuine owners.

As far as the starting price the best bet is to do a bit of research on completed listings. In my opinion it's better to start at 99p without a reserve and hold your breath! Takes a bit of courage but that's how I do my eBay auctions - so far so good!

I like it. If you Ebay it, post the link. I may be interested. Conversely, if you prefer to sell through the forum, shoot me a PM.

I agree with the others - it's real and if you're selling it an enthousiast nuyer will see that.

Its definately real.. but you probably knew that. Like others have said.. the right buyer will know that its real. For a superquartz aerospace you should get more than $800, however, and this is a big one.. your pics look like it is in pretty banged up shape, tho the crystal looks clean... which means that you can expect it to bring in less.. I would say in very good condition your watch should bring in around $1200-1300... but in what appears to be rough shape and lack of papers, its hard to say.

I personally think its better to just post an ad up somewhere that doesn't charge you money and to use ebay as a last resort.

I found the papers but have a sale pending at $1,050. Worth bumping up the price?

Even with papers, $1050 is a pretty good price for it, as it's pretty banged up. One in near mint condition would probably bring $1200+ however.
